Sirens: The Underground Influence of Georgette Heyer

I had a hard time keeping up, so forgive any errors! This was a great, energetic panel, and I was really glad I happened to have brought The Masqueraders with me so that I could immediately start rereading it.

Thanks for the write-up! I'm still in Portland. My flight got delayed by five hours.

Interesting to see the impression of the various novels and that some of my favourites weren't mentioned at all. Thanks for the write-up ^^

Which are your favorites? I think they mentioned most of mine except for The Unknown Ajax.

That sounds wonderful. I wish virtual-me had been there!

Another Heyer-descended pair of books is Ankaret Wells's Respite series The Maker's Mask and The Hawkwood War: the romantic object is very attractively (to me, anyway) Avon, although the protagonist is nothing at all out of Heyer. There are dialogue echoes; it's not just characterization. Unlike Heyer, Wells acknowledges that a forty-something lover has aches and pains and is conscious of aging.

I loved the Panshin so much I can't bear to reread them to see if the Suck Fairy has been by. The Universal Pantograph is one of the first books I'd seek out in the Library of Babel.

Huh, I didn't think of Heyer while I was reading the Wells books -- will have to go back and reread with that in mind!

Ellen Kushner was so enthusiastic about the Panshin books that I think practically the whole audience wrote them down to seek out. His web site has an ebook omnibus which I will probably check out.

Looks like the Panshin books are collected as New Celebrations, except for the part where one cannot order the ebook hence anymore. It turns up on Amazon and B&N, at minimum--I didn't check everywhere.

Oh, excellent, I hadn't clicked through that deep on his site yet. I do like to get ebooks from Amazon so I can sample them.
