Step One
Make a post (public, friends, locked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf (or fairy) -- to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not -- it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
1. I wish someone who knew something about cars would come over this weekend and help Joe fix the seal on the Saturn so it will stop burning oil like crazy.
2. I wish someone who knew something about cars would come help Joe switch the Metro engines so I could have my Saturn back!
3. I wish Joe's mom would fall off the face of the earth.
4. I wish we'd get another 18 inches of snow like we did when I was pregnant with Lauren. That was pretty cool. It'd be even cooler if it was snowy from now until at least January 5th or so.
5. I wish I knew a way to seal up the jalousie windows tightly so the house would heat better and cold air wouldn't come in and freeze us all winter.
6. I wish I had the last two books in the Dark Tower series.
7. I wish I had the Firefly series on DVD.
8. I wish Vicky and Dan could be here for Thanksgiving and Christmas both.
9. I wish I could find someone to help Joe tear out the bathroom crap. I can't help tearing it down because we need to fix the mold problem and I'm allergic to it. So until it's all down and gone I can't do much to help.
10. I wish I could get the kids all the cool kiddie stuff on my Amazon list without screwing myself out of the money I need for the two weddings coming up.
Cool. If nothing else, I have the things I want, and want to get done, in a list so I don't forget them!
BTW,
dartfaerie, do you happen to have Holly, Jolly Xmas on an mp3 or anything? I had it but it got deleted when my other computer self-destructed :) Does anyone have this song?
