So, in addition to the overwhelming news about getting the LASIK done, I had a very fun time Saturday evening with
birchduck. I had been told to take it easy with the eyes and "watch a movie or something" (instead of sew, read, knit, or use the computer - *sigh*)
But I had heard an announcement that the
local historical movie theater (built in 1914) was showing the original
Maltese Falcon as part of the Peoria reads program (which is contingent with
The Big Read).
The original film adaptation of The Maltese Falcon was done in 1931 (NOT the Bogart version). It was really a fun time and a witty movie. I have never seen it and I don't think I've ever seen a black & white film in the theater, either.
Even cooler was the theater itself - what's left is the original balcony, so there's a floor built where the opening to the main floor would have been. The nearly baroque plasterwork on the ceiling was painted and gilded - wow! Golden swags of fruit held together with silver ribbons.
For $5 it was well worth it - and the popcorn was free, too. :)
