Okay, so something really weird just happened.
I was picked up on by this Puerto Rican guy who rides my bus and gets off at my stop (I only mention his ethnicity because he did, as in, 'Hey, I bet you're thinking, what's this scary Puerto Rican guy want?'). Now, I am not someone who gets picked up on. Like, ever, in real life. The closest I have come was some really creepy guy on a bus when I was sixteen who sat down next to me and promptly called me baby while putting his hand on my thigh, and a guy at my first Confurence who asked me to raise my arms because he liked girls with hairy armpits (I don't shave), causing Andy to snarl at him and pull me away. I am just not the kind of person people pick up on, for various reasons, I guess. I no longer believe myself to be horribly unattractive as I thought in my youth (when I was lighter and prettier ... what folly, youth!), but I still don't think I give off the approachable vibe. I dunno. Most of the women I know deal with this, if not a lot, at least semi-regularly. Sarah has a ton of stories, as do a lot of girls I know. It's just never been something I've had to deal with, for better or for worse. I've had people chat with me, which I certainly don't mind (there's some interesting people on the bus!), but not this.
And when I say picking up, I don't mean subtly hinting. He did about two minutes of small talk as we were walking the same direction, then asked me out for a drink. I politely declined, and gave him the out of saying I was married and flashing the ring. He said the usual polite "Lucky guy!" ... and then proceeded to talk about how hot I was for the next two blocks, until we came to his street. o.O Things like, "Oh, damn, I gotta stop watching your mouth," and "Man, I thought you were way too hot for me to talk to when I saw you on the bus, I was all like, 'Damn!'" Also, in response to my, "Oh, come on, you're just flattering me now," he said, "Yeah, I'd flatter you 24/7 if I could!"
... I wasn't sure what to do other than keep turning the guy down and trying to laugh it off. He wasn't really pushy, he didn't try to touch me, other than a brief hand-shake when he went off saying it was nice to meet me, and he didn't eye my ass or anything like that. But is was so weird. I truly never had this experience, so I wasn't sure what to do. On the one hand, hey, it's nice a guy thinks I'm good looking (though I'm guessing this guy approaches pretty much any woman vaguely his age). On the other hand, dude! Married! More than, if I wanted to go into personal detail! Not going to sleep with you, no matter how much you talk about how hot I am!
I think I'm going to just chalk this one up as an experience for livejournal, and leave it at that. And hope that guy doesn't ride my bus too often.
