Dear Yuletide author

Wow! We matched on something! Considering how weird my fandoms often are, I am excite!!11!!! I don't have a lot to add to the optional details in the signup form, but I'll let you know a little about me as a reader, and why I chose those fandoms.

I've been participating in Yuletide only for a few years, but I have found that many of my fandoms are so obscure, I have to pick things I'm not that into just to have something for people to write! So I hope that you aren't going, what the hell did I get myself into? on these, and that you will be psyched that there's someone else you can squee with. Because that's what it's all about, no? I hope you'll be able to write something you have fun with.

I'm pretty open to almost any kind of story -- I like happy or sad, slash or gen, sweet or dark, hopeful or bleak, happily ever after or rocks fall everybody dies, and everything in between. I'm not one of those people who demands a happy ending, or a Christmasy story, or what have you. If you want to write shopping for curtains, I'm OK with that; but if you decide they should die in a fire from the curtains, I can see that too. ;-)

Stuff I care about: Quality writing, grammar, punctuation (I'm an editor in RL, so this is something that I confess I really do look at), characterization, show canon, snappy dialog, passion. I love it when characters can do something, instead of just sitting in a white room; I love atmosphere and when a story shows that the writer really loves the characters the way I do. A little tension can be a wonderful thing, so you don't have to shy away from stuff like hurt/comfort or angst or anything like that.

Stuff I do not like in any way: Religion, bdsm or anything related to that, any kind of animal suffering or animal cruelty, cruelty to kids, any two guys/gals type of characterization where the voices aren't representative of the real characters, weird AUs -- if someone's a sock or a garden gnome or what have you, you'll have to work extra hard to make it work for me.

For my fandoms, I don't have a lot beyond the optional details I provided, but here's a few things about how I see these:

The Hire series (BMW): I've always wanted to see fic for these short films, but never got around to writing it myself, and have been thinking a lot about it lately after the movie Drive came out. I love the different sides we see of The Driver over the course of the films -- the almost playful guy in Star and Chosen, the more serious and almost kind of wounded guy in The Follow and Powder Keg, and the man of action and moral righteousness in Ticker. I would love to see some kind of backstory on him, any kind of story at all, because he's so mysterious and sexy and it's pretty hard to believe that guy doesn't have quite a story.

MDs: I really doubt you're here for this since I'm on the only person who ever requests or offers it, but in the off chance you're assigned to something else and intrigued by this, I have a post with all the aired episodes (the quality isn't superb, but you can at least see it) here: http://gwyn-r.livejournal.com/300705.html so you can DL them. William Fichtner is like my favorite actor, and I love him in this series, so if you wanted to do a slashy piece with them, or a friendship, or a character study of Fichtner's role, or something like that, well, you would make me deliriously happy and also increase the fandom's output exponentially, because there's only piece out there I know of, which was written as a treat for me a couple years ago.

Case Histories: One of my other favorite actors is Jason Isaacs, whom I'm watched some pretty crappy stuff for, but fortunately Case Histories is not one of the bad things -- he is magnificent in this role, and I just fell in love with the TV series that aired in the UK (the PBS airings in the US cut them a little from what I saw, but I don't know how much). I have not read the books, so the Jackson Brodie I love is very much from the series. I also really liked Louise -- you don't have to include her if you don't feel like it, but if you do, that'd be great. I loved the sense of place in the show, the people around Jackson, especially Louise, and his daughter as well, so bringing in other characters would be lovely.

Drive Angry: This is a terrible movie, and I can't stand most of the people in it, and I don't even normally like Nicolas Cage, but William Fichtner was in it, so... And honestly, I can see why he loved playing the Accountant, he's just having so much fun in the role, that I'd love to see something set around him. I think he'd be a blast of a character to play with, and it'd be fun to see what happens to the Accountant and John after they ride off into the (hell) sunset. Really bad films can be so much fun to fix, I think, and this one really does need help.

Most of all, I hope you have fun, and love one or more of these fandoms as much as I do and look forward to sharing our squee.
