Still bitter

It's been a few weeks since Imeem took down everyone's vids, and I'm still bitter. All the work we did putting them up, building a community of like-minded vidders, all the comments, everything... grrr ( Read more... )

To help with the heat, you can put a dish/pan of ice/ice water in front of the fan. And if you freeze 2-Liter soda bottles, you can set those out for the cats to snuggle up to. I hope you guys cool off soon!!

My own solution, fwiw, is to stash vids at both BAM and blip.tv, and when I post about them, to encourage downloads because that's the way to get the shinier version. (Granted, I only have 3 vids out there in the world -- a 4th coming soon and a 5th next month! -- but either way, uploading them to two places isn't the hassle for me that it would be for a longtime vidder who has a lot of work.) It's not ideal, but for the moment it seems like the best alternative.

Is Vimeo crap for fan vids? I know their quality is great but nothing of their policies (I should look it up for myself as I have an account there.)

The heatwave you guys are getting is so crazy. It normally gets that hot here in Chicago in August and though I've lived through it my whole life...it sucks. You might find a little relief by applying a damp facecloth to the back of your neck. Growing up pre-affordable window a/c's my parent's would put the box fans in the windows (with boards on the sides.)

It's 63 degrees outside, and I'm sitting here wearing a polar fleece jacket, drinking hot coffee, wondering where summer went. My heat actually kicked on two mornings this month because it got so cold overnight. I guess the grass is always greener. *is trying not to be bitter*

I still haven't uploaded any vids to BAM. Their playback is 15 fps, and I can't see the point of spending the time uploading vids with fast cutting when I know it can't handle them. I haven't explored any other options, either, because I keep hearing about vidders being TOS'd and having vids taken down. laurashapiro suggested we start streaming on our own websites, but that entails technical wizardry to turn them into flash, then hoping your host doesn't dump you if you exceed your alotted bandwidth. So... %#@$*&!

Like I told dine, I feel so bad for you guys. It's not like that isn't the kind of heat we here in the Midwest deal with every year, but we're ready and geared up for it. But having lived a chunk of my life with no A/C in the house, I do know how you feel. I can remember lots of showers and living in front of a fan with a spray bottle of rapidly melting ice water. But I also remember a small TV on the closed toilet so I could lay in a cool tub of water!

Stay well. Heat stroke is a very real possibility.
