By now I assume all of you have heard of the dude that went berserk in Southern Alabama and killed his family and anyone in his way last tuesday (
http://news.aol.com/article/alabama-community-stunned-by-rampage/377736 ).
I realized after the shock wore off a bit I was angry. Two of my co-workers were too close to geting hurt; one lives a mile from where this wacko lived with his mother, the closest neighbor, so to speak, the other one was going to the store with his litle girl to get her ice cream when he heard the shots, he hit reverse and somehow he wasnt seen by the madman.
The mother of a third co-worker lives behind the house where they guy gunned down his uncles and the deputy's wife and child. In fact, she is alive because when he went around the block, hunting for his grandmother (who got away), he got distracted by a man who was walking on the opposite side of the road, thusly giving her a chance to run (unseen) in the house with the granddaughter. The guy didnt escape, thou.
This guy, Michael Mclendon, was one of those persons who is never at fault, "people are always picking on me" and so on. Problem is, he defied authority in a passive agressive way, didnt follow directions and expected everything handled to him.
I am glad his hit list was way too long, thou. We were in it. Yes, "we" as in USDA. You see, one of our own was singlehandedly responsible for geting his mother suspended (pending firing) from work for falsifying records. He was going to get all that had wronged him and his mother (yet he started off by killing her and her dog, then setting them on fire-I don't understand that part).
Oh, back to my anger, want to know what had me pissed off? All the big vans with all the satellites on top for Fox News, CNN, NBC etc, that made traversing thru Samson pure hell. I mean, no one wants to get on the map this way, but I kept thinking...where are all this bastards when the herd of cattle in the pasture by SR 85(
http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Samson&state=AL) broke the fence and everybody and their mother used their vehicles to corral them while some local "boys" chased them back in the pasture and they all helped put the fence back in place?
Where is Fox news for the festival on the rivers?(
http://www.alabama.travel/things-to-do/events/geneva_festival_on_the_rivers.html) or the peanut festival? or Bama Jam?
Nowhere, that's where.
But let something bad happen and there they are, sticking their cameras and microphones in people faces, wanting intervies and crap.
They have become voltures, if people are dead; they are there, getting all the dirty laundry.
Thankfully I know that the area wont be tainted forever because we had a bad apple. People in this area are resilient. The people are the reason I have resisted moving from here; this is why I came back from Jacksonville, FL., why I returned from Camilla, Ga.
The area will heal. I know it.
On another note, David Merkel was sentenced that tuesday too, guess it was a rather intense week. Here's the news article
(
http://www.newsherald.com/news/merkel_72300___article.html/bennett_dowgul.html).
David I met thru Ravynn, the third of the three people I knew in Panama City that ended up in jail.
That's it for my ranting, next time I promise I will have something positive to share.
