Death of a Fanboy

Jul 21, 2008 10:43

Geeks do have their cool kids. I used to be one of them. I was a Joss Whedon disciple.
Hell, I'm probably still one of them, considering that my stories tend to follow the "No One Can Be Happy" rule that kept Buffy going for 7 seasons and Angel going for 5. I was a huge Buffy fan. I would devour seasons in marathon sessions. I bought books for the RPG despite their being $20 more than the average RPG book each. I even almost wrote fanfiction.
And then came Firefly.
And at first I was "meh".
'Cause I'd already seen Cowboy Bebop.
So a few years pass, and I watch the series all over again with Mike, and it's better than I remembered, so we watch Serenity as well.
And damn, Joss loves to kill people.
And now?
I do believe it's time to unceremoniously boot my ass from the Whedon fandom.
I haven't watched Buffy in ages. Mike has the first 4 seasons of Angel on DVD and I've been ignoring them to rewatch episodes of Dead Like Me and Weeds.
And then I hear about DrHorrible.com
So I watch Act I.
And I was "meh".
Because I've already read Soon I Will Be Invincible.
And "Once More With Feeling" wasn't my favorite Buffy episode.
And seeing Neil Patrick Harris play yet another straight role...
Not to mention I got hung up on the rather slow pacing of the monologue and dialogue.
*turns in his fandom membership card and sulks away to wait for death*

Peace.
