* Today was a rough one. The construction downtown requires increasingly more byzantine routes to reach the library. I timed things beautifully so that the forage line wasn't to long and there was a spot or me right in front. Alas, I also arrived between an inciting incident involving line cutting which I just missed, and what very nearly escalated into a three way battle involving the aggrieved party, the line cutter and an extremely aggressive an inexplicably emotionally invested bystander. A worker seemed to sort things out between the initial near combatants and was trying to deal with Aggressive Bystander, when things started heating up again, so I ran to give the worker a heads up on that. It was eventually sorted, but I hate that kind of thing and two of the men were quite large and shouty and I was way closer than I like to be. This was my least favorite part of teaching, and middle school boys are not nearly the threat to every one around them that grown men are. Teaching I had authority and a reasonable chance of stopping things before anyone got hurt. Here, not so much. They ended up moving Line Cutter back next to me, and he would not shut the fuck up, insisting on conversing with me when I just wanted to read and calm down and not social until I got inside. Instead I was required to talk about "Space Opera" and explain my spinal damage. He kept trying to help in that clueless not helping way of able bodied people. I wanted to be left alone and not fussed at and not have to explain in detail why it was nice of him to offer, but none of these things are actually help or things I want. He meant well and it was likely his way of calming down after the near fight, but my whole back is in spasm now and I'm in overload. Inside it was crowds of slow moving people spread out to take up maximum space, thus preventing people like me who are quick and decisive, from darting in to get what we needed and get out. And there were workers trying to help in the least helpful ways possible, including grabbing my cart, grabbing my crutch, not letting me do things the most efficient way for my disability, etc.. I was there earlier than usual, which meant most the workers I had trained over time how to actually help with things like lifting but not "help" in ways that make things harder for me weren't there. I was borderline echolalic by the time I was done which is always fucking embarrassing and I still needed to go spend the last of my food allotment on two packets of frozen naan, as we are low on gas and coming back another day would be super wasteful. The parking lot there was ridiculously full, and when I did find a handicapped spot a good long gimp away there was an able bodied lady with children and a cart conversing in it, so I had to wait for them to clear off to their car. Could they not have done that on the sidewalk? Luckily no one touched me in the store, as I'm not sure I could have kept from sticking out in reflex, and I did get home safely and the food put away. I am trying not to cry at the thought of making dinner.

* TOS Rewatch, Season 1:

- "The Alternative factor:" This is the first one I didn't immediately recognize, to the point I'm wondering if this one wasn't popular in syndication for some reason, though it did come back to me with McCoy and the disappearing/reappearing head wound. They've already had the transporter accident that split kirk. Why is Schrodinger's alien so hard for them to figure out?
