* The sleep attempt failed, as every time I started to drift off to sleep, it was like sand was filling my lungs. I managed to score an emergency Doctor appointment. they nearly forced me to go to the emergency room instead, but I pointed out that's an 8-12 hour wait on a Saturday with me coughing in the waiting room with no access to treatment, which would not be pleasant for anybody. They ended up adding a couple more meds, one of which I am allergic to, but she thinks we can get away with four days at a low dose. (Not anaphalactic, but the last time I took it I was still a healthy athlete and was bedridden for a week, barely able to make it to the bathroom). I did manage a couple of cough interrupted hours of sleep with the new meds. They kept me all afternoon because they were worried about oxygen levels.
Poor Tavy his having a really hard time with it. He just wants to curl up on his human for a cuddle nap, but the human is making terrible sounds and was gone for hours and is not following the schedule and is clearly sick and can't lie still. It's starting to freak him out, I can tell.
* A few of you have asked recently, and I suspect others of you are curious, so here is the basic FAQ on the main things wrong with me (there are others, but these two are why I'm Federally disabled).
I have Ankylosing Spondalytis (which is an autoimmune disease similar to lupus and rheumatoid arthritis) and cystic fibrosis carrier syndrome, which means my lungs are weak, prone to damage, gradually degenerating on their own, and I catch basically everything airborne I'm exposed to. AS and CF Carrier are a bad combination as the CF carrier rules out a lot of the meds that help slow AS degeneration, and the AS means that my immune system is way more interested in eating bits of me it doesn't approve of like the cartilage in my spine than in fighting off the invaders my genetically borked lungs let in. There is a particularly brutal bronchitis going around. They are dropping like flies at area nursing homes. Like nursing home residents and AIDS patients, people like me tend to get hit hard in epidemics like this. It's normal. One day, I will catch something like this, my lungs will collapse and i will die. This is how my Mother went and her Aunt Ruth. My mother's sister with full blown CF died in college of pneumonia. Before antibiotics, people with cf carrier tended to die young of things like pneumonia, bronchitis, etc.. The antibiotic revolution let folks live a lot longer. Aunt Ruth was in her 70's. My Mother was 70. Not a bad span, but the quality of life is a lot lower. It is in the nature of it.
This infection is very serious, even by my standards, and I had MRSA in my lungs for six months that one time, but this isn't the one that will kill me.
Side Note: this is why it's Ableist to mock people for doing activism at home, not that any of my followers are likely to do such a thing, but it might help you explain it to friends. Not only is it physically painful and exhausting to me to go to things like protests and rallies in person, jeopardizing my ability to, say, feed and bath myself that week, but it also exposes me to pathogens in quantity my body flat out can't handle, and the more damage serious infections do, the more scarring on my lungs, the more undermined what passes for my immune system is, the more years I lose not only off my life span, but the more years I lose off my doesn't need a portable oxygen tank time, etc.. Rev. Barber, for example, is already a fucking hero if you are only counting the work he's done with moral Mondays. When you consider he is doing it with AS, and likely his every step is agony... yeah. I honor those of us with disabilities who go out there at greater cost and risk, but not all of us can do it. And that's just me. Consider someone who is agoraphobic or has serious anxiety or whose autism or SID make being in crowds incredibly fucking difficult. (I also happen to have SID and I really don't deal well with Strangers touching me which happens at big protests and marches). It's ablest to treat folks with extra challenges like this as lazy and mock us for choosing the sort of activism that better suits our strengths and doesn't come with a massive extra cost other people don't have to consider. We aren't slacktavists, we are people who are trying our hardest and it's a shitty thing to attack us for wanting to be able to, say walk to the toilet under our own power tomorrow, or not deal with a week of serious sensory over load when the person doing the mocking never has to make that kind of choice, and it's not like there aren't a whole host of things, like phoning Congress critters to complain that are also effective.
* Legion has a really interesting aesthetic, but if you are planning on watching it and haven't yet it includes attempted rape, suicide, and a lot of things that might be triggering around gas lighting and institutionalization. I really liked the Aubry Plaza character, which I am told is a middle aged man in the comics (which I haven't read) and they deliberately didn't change anything else about the character except age and gender, which is rather brilliant. I am not sure how I feel about the way the Institution is depicted and I am generally wary of the trope where a person is not mentally ill but institutionalized for power. I do plan to stick with it, because it's well executed and they really have gotten me interested in the mauin character and the hell is going on.
