* For what feels like the millionth time Trigger warnings aren't censorship. Ingredient lists on soup cans aren’t censorship. It’s the same damned thing. Ingredient lists on food cans warn people about things that could potentially make them sick. Trigger warnings do the same damned thing for people who’ve experienced trauma. This isn’t rocket science.

* Squirrel went in for tests Monday, and they ended up doing emergency surgery. Given how ill he looked the last few weeks, it wasn't a huge surprise. It was a fixable thing. They'd hoped to send him home early this morning, but it looks like they are keeping him until tomorrow. His cat is visibly worried and mopey. She keeps looking for him in this sad, resigned sort of way that is heartbreaking to watch. I've been giving her servings of Hector's old goosh, and petting her when she'll let me.

I've been sleeping in clothes the last two days and having to do without melatonin as I've been on call for picking him up both days. It's been sticky hot, and the death of the big fan has made it hard to sleep. I've managed to work out a precarious system that made things bearable in my room, but I am not convinced it will be enough come June. We'll see.

Unfortunately, I didn't get the right combination until about 2 in the afternoon, about two hours after I'd given up on getting back to sleep after Medicare Advantage woke me up to try to argue me into a home visit I don't want or need. Look, I totally am in favor of the service being available. They were a big help to my mother in the last two years of her deterioration. It's great that someone is checking on people who might for one reason or another need it. The thing is though, I don't. I'm in my mid-40's, with good mental health and am neurologically healthy. I have a CNA for a roommate. I have a complex meds schedule, yes, but I've evolved an organizational system that's worked pretty well for that, and external interference with that will be way more likely to make me miss doses as I try to learn a new system then me continuing without being bothered. I do not right now what to have a stranger intruding in my home and eating a couple of hours of precious sleep even if that stranger is perfectly nice like last time. It's bad enough we have fire testing again this month with fire fighters stomping through and the loud alarms for every single detector in the building being checked, and the resulting sensory overload for me and terror for the cats. Arguing Medicare into leaving me the fuck alone for a few months was something I don't like doing on inadequate sleep and as I'd been expecting it to be Squirrel I was all wide awake and adrenaline in preparation for getting my shit together to get him. One realizing it wasn't I was instantly worried that it was after 11 and he hadn't called for pick up. The result was I simply hung up so I could call his cell. Which means they will likely wake me up an hour before the forage alarm tomorrow so I can argue with them then. Sigh. I know, my fault.

I did get out and mail the ebays that were paid, did pharmacy, library, etc.. I also managed somehow to damage a plant today during watering somehow. *facepalm*

* It turns out CBUT broadcast the skating Syncho worlds! This is an event that I rarely get to see and I know very little about, but I love watching. It is beautiful like ballet chorus dancing and strangely hypnotic, like watching flocks of birds. I do know just enough about the physics of movement on ice and injury risk to be incredibly impressed by things that often look simple on the surface, which adds piquancy, and I do love that even though I'm about as clueless as it gets on the technicals I can still see the difference in quality between the top teams and the ones lower down. I love that because it's an overwhelmingly female sport, when they break into pairs it strips all the heteronormativity out of ice dancing moves and I can just enjoy how beautiful the movements are. There is something deceptively elegant about the top teams in motion. It is weirdly relaxing, the way my fish tanks are relaxing. I don't have proper words for why I enjoy watching it really, just that I walked away smiling to myself after.
