The main thrust of the event was in fact demands to round us all up and kill us, and as they spoke after this torrent of hate instead of leaving, they clearly all three endorse killing us all in the Christian theocracy death camps.

In context, Sansa is saying that Gregor did not deserve social sanction and it doesn’t matter what Rhaegar Targaryen thought, it matters about defending the weak et cetera. The problem is therefore not with knights per se, it’s with Gregor - a personally validating statement for Sandor to hear. And this “true knights” argument is, in turn, a part of the idealism present throughout A Song of Ice and Fire but largely absent in Game of Thrones. ASOIAF agrees with Sansa and Brienne (there are true knights, and being a true knight is a matter of choosing to uphold the ideal - though it’s not an easy thing to do), and they convince others of the merits of their position. GoT agrees with pre-character development Sandor and Jaime, and everyone just spirals ever further into nihilistic cynicism until the plot demands that they don’t."
