* As I suspected, it's looking like Hastert likely
raped at least two teenaged boys when he was a coach, and one of the survivors blackmailed him after he stepped down as Speaker. I'm betting more will come forward. Odds are statute of limitations is up, so I hope the authorities nail him to the wall on the financial charges.

New readers won't know that I am the rare person for whom Anthony head was first Repo Man, then Murray Head's cousin. I came to watch Buffy late in life, not having been particularly fond of the movie and the start of the show falling into a period of time when we only had one and a half channels from Canada to watch total. (The half channel had a lot of snow and was only watchable on good sun spot days.) When we did get access to other channels it was a few years in and didn't appeal. I did eventually watch them on LOGO a few years ago and blogged about it then. I did rather like the later seasons of Angel and Buffy had a lot of good things in it, but I was never an uncritical fan of either the series or Whedon, and again, I've only watched these all the way through the one time, though I've seen some individual episodes more often. So again, I'm not the most informed, so grain of salt.
I hit season two in the rewatch and I have some thoughts, particularly in light of Age of Ultron. Season two is pretty horrifyingly racist. Sure, everyone remembers with horror the infamous cultural appropriation costume dance and the whole Inca mummy mess, but I think they forget how bad the rest of the season was. There's lots of little racist things peppered through the thing, but more importantly the whole back half of the season slathers on the anti-Romani stereotypes and hate speech. So I'm watching this mess and thinking about Age of Ultron where Whedon chose to erase the Maximoff Romani heritage, but leave in the eastern European and Romani stereotypes. And yes, racism isn't the right word. (I've seen Balkinism suggested, sort of similar to Orientalism.) It sure looks an feels like something similar and putting together Ultron the anti-Romani hate fest that is season two of Buffy, I can't help but note there is something ugly there outside of the whiteness of the cast (except Cordelia), and the horrible Inca episode, and all the rest. It's feeling like a pattern to me.
