In South Carolina, a police officer spotted a black man not wearing his seat belt while parked at a gas station. He then shot the unarmed man for complying with the order to show him his ID. He then shot him with his hands up, then cuffed him. Contrary to the usual procedure of covering up white police officer shootings of innocent unarmed people, they actually arrested the police criminal for assault, instead of blaming the victim. He is expected to get off anyway, because the victim is black.

* The police who hunted and killed John Crawford for shopping while black in a Walmart will face no indictment. Even though the video completely contradicts police accounts. After all shooting black people in the back is completely legal for white police officers, even though he was literally one aisle where he picked up the bb gun and wasn't threatening any body with it.
* I am not up to writing about details, but the police have been rioting in Ferguson and attacking black citizens again.

I love the characterization of the women, that Abby and Jenny are intelligent, strong, and competent, but that they are also valued by the men in the show. So often the strong black women stereotype has been used to endlessly burden women of colour and to deny them help. It's nice to see Jenny is not just capable of rescuing herself, but also that she is considered worth protecting. It is a beautiful thing to see that Abby is both endlessly resourceful, but two men are willing to risk life and soul to aid and rescue her. They are not infantilized damsels, but strong women who are valued and offered help. I think it is good thing that girls and women of color finally can see some one who looks like them treated this way, possibly for the first time, and I hope more shows and movies will start doing this.
