* We went to an Ocean beach yesterday. It was beautiful, the right sort of sand, real waves, proper dunes. It was beautiful, but a hard steady wind endlessly blew the sand into everything, and snatched the sun's heat. It was too cold for body surfing without a wet suit. il_volpe and I went in several times as deep and as often as we could stand, which was much further for him, as once the first wave hit my groin, I had to turn back. It was good to feel the tug of tides, smell sea and sand, and hear the cry of birds. I had cleverly brought a second towel for my head in between dips, so I hunkered down in a "posh sand pit" with book and towels to protect me from sun and wind, while il-volpe hunted sand dollars.
* Today is for rest. Tomorrow, we walk amoung redwoods.
* I haven't read Dance of the Dragons, but I needed to read some things on it for something I'm working on for GoB. It's pretty clearly based on Empress Matilda vs king Stephen out of English history. Now I am wondering if the Game of Thrones Lannisters are inspired by Borgias....
