http://www.thenation.com/blog/179975/ohio-will-stop-using-solitary-confinement-punish-kids * In late afternoon, we went out to a nearby beach. Those of you who've ever seen me at a beach know how bad I am at staying out of the water even fully dressed when it's too cold for swimming. I was good, and only went in far enough for the tallest wavelets to wet the bottom of my trunks. The beach was artificial, so there was a but more gravel mixed in than I like and the shallows had a strange texture, but the bit of shore that gets frequent waves was perfect and it was incredibly good for my spirit to stand in salt water with the wind and sun and sea scent and the sound of waves and happy children, watching kite surfers glide back and forth. Heaven.
I went back up the slope to read. I'd have rather sat on the hard, packed bit the waves had smoothed and ground, but I knew that was way to hard for my bits. I set my blanket up in the soft but failed at the sitting part. Ooooouuuuuuch. We read for a bit and I got sun and wind on my skin, but I hurt myself enough we had to go back early, and I'm back on the ice.
