* So not only did CNN invent an arrest in the Boston Bombing, but the New York Post fingered two innocent young me, one 17 of doing it and randomly blamed the Saudi's without evidence. This sort of thing is not okay. An innocent teenager spent a day and will likely spend more days with people blaming him for the bombings. We need to wait for the facts no matter how upset we are. That goes a hundred fold for news outlets. Stirring up racial hatred and encouraging mobs to hunt innocent people for the sake of circulation or ratings should not be acceptable in this society.
I keep thinking of the late Richard Jewell, who was the hero of the Olympic Park bombing in 1996. He spotted the bomb and alerted the authorities in time for them to start evacuation, thus dramatically reducing the human cost of the bombing. Despite being completely innocent and the clear hero, he got labelled a suspect and the media tore him and his personal life apart. The media pretty much ruined his life by declaring him guilty of another man's crime.when I see that the media has been picking out random innocent people to blame and vilify, I get worried it's going to happen all over again.
The FBI has published pictures of actual suspects. If you spot them, please do phone in a tip, but please, let's not attack people when we don't know the whole story. A college student wearing a hat similar to the suspect got surrounded and luckily was not harmed by police. A whole lot of people fit the description. Best to go gently here, especially because the crime was so upsetting. Let's try people in court and not in the media. Similarly, let's not assign motive without atually knowing the motive.
