* China's got warships patrolling those uninhabited islands, just like Japan is. It's getting scary, folks.
* Turkey, fed up with Syria shooting across the country to kill and injure folks on the Turkish side of the border, has passed a measure to allow the government to send forces across the border at short notice in retaliation for any future attacks. I don’t blame them, honestly, and the surprise is it hasn’t happened sooner. Syria has been using artillery against a Turkish town with five dead: a mother, her children, and a policeman and now Turkey is bombarding back, possibly forcing the evacuation of the military outpost responsible for the most recent attack on Turkey.
* There is an outbreak of deadly meningitis across six states with 35 sick and five dead.
* More Voter Suppression, including Republican officials using tax payer money to lie to people telling them they are not allowed to vote without ID even though they are in the hopes of suppressing the vote of the poor and elderly.:

It's as if he doesn't understand that retired folks paid in their whole working lives and that People working low paid jobs still pay taxes but we've decided not to increase the minimum wage to match the cost of living so that you can work full time and still not make rent, or that we decided that the folks fighting in Afghanistan had enough on their plates without taking time out to file tax documents. These are the 47% he's attacking in this clip. I do not understand where someone as rich as he is gets off insisting that all someone working two crappy minimum wage job needs is a third job, or that 90 year olds should come out of retirement regardless of their health. If he doesn't know who the 47% he is attacking are, than it seems to me that he has no business being in Congress let alone running for Vice President. That level of profound ignorance about the lives of nearly half of the country should be a dis-qualifier for any public office in a reasonable civilization. The pertinent bit starts about 3:45.:

After all, which is more likely, the sudden public pretense he suddenly changed his mind since Monday or that what he says in private is his real opinion.
* It turns out I forgot to tape the debate and I was in no condition to try to watch it last night live. I'm aware of the various pundit opinions and spins, but not having seen it or even reasonable sound bites, I'm not weighing in.

* I know this sounds weird, but it feels like I just moved in here for real this week. I think it's having the last few boxes squared away and the pictures up. I keep peering about thinking "Home!" I got decent sleep, then headed out for beginning of the month errands. I had to drop three things from the list because everything took way longer than it needed to. For example, a fifteen minute stop in to quick pick up a last few things for the tea box turned into an hour. O.o The registers needed resetting at the grocery store stopping all the check out lines cold. *facepalm* It was a productive trip though, as I did the most be done now things and unloaded stuff for storage.
The weird: Not only did five women do social flirting with me, but two women of a certain age tried to pick me up. O.o I get the social pro forma flirting anyone in customer service does. I get the old guy flirting (which has different rules than I'm used to, but I'm working on picking up). I get the occasional lesbian taking me for a butch lesbian and trying to pick me up. I just can't imagine being a straight woman seeing my flamboyant ambiguous ass and thinking, "I think I'll settle for that," but then Michelle Bachmann married Mr. Bachmann on purpose, so I guess if a lady is desperate.... Don't worry, I was polite. Inside my head I was seized with a sense of unreality. Is she coming on to me? Oh my god, she's coming on to me! I felt a little bad about it, as I don't like writing checks I can't cash. At the same time, I was seriously impressed by the one lady's technique, fishing to find out if I was seeing anyone without me catching on except in retrospect, then sliding casually into the pitch. That was some serious varsity stuff.
