Think about how you can really help

The local news keeps telling me of churches and other organizations that are collecting food, medical supplies and clothes to send to Haiti. My question: How are you going to get the stuff there, and what are they supposed to do with it if it arrives?

The airport with it's one runway is so overwhelmed that they've turned doctors away, but your box of hamburger helper, bandaids, and sweaters is going to get there? Seriously? If you want to help, give Money to a Large reputable organization that is already in Haiti. They've got the infrastructure figured out, help them do what needs doing. Don't give your pastor a bunch of stuff that's going to sit in church storage for six months while they figure out what to do with it.

Don't take my word for it, read this article on the subject. Don't make the situation worse, give Money if you're going to give anything.
