London Calling

Jun 29, 2009 22:29

Here I am in London! I'm at an internet cafe across the street from my hotel. And the clock on the computer says 22:30. I love England. Jet lag was awful yesterday - I felt like a zombie walking around. But we kept walking so we wouldn't fall asleep and we found a Bruce Springsteen concert by accident in Hyde Park. Apparently, they have concerts there and if you don't feel like getting a ticket (or can't afford it) you sit outside the wall on the grass and listen to the concert with the thousand other people doing the same thing. They had the Dave Matthews Band before we got there. We went to a pub for dinner and I had fish and chips - so good!

Last night I ended up falling asleep around 8:00. It stays light here until about 10. Anyway, the window by the head of my bed was wide open because they don't have air conditioning here. The fan was going back and forth blowing the gauzy breeze and blowing on my head. And I could hear people walking by and talking in their English accents and cars driving by and I was like "I'm in England" even in my sleep. *grins* Also, the @ key and the " key are switched on this keyboard which is making it hard for me to type.

Today I woke up feeling like new. We went downstairs to the basement and ate a full English breakfast, with toast and an egg and a broiled tomato. I tried the baked beans on toast but didn't like it, so I avoided the rest of that. Then we went on part of a bus tour until I saw the London Eye and insisted we go on that. We saw Big Ben and the dome of St. Paul's Cathedral. I had bottled water and a scone with strawberry jelly and clotted cream on it for tea.

Tomorrow we're supposed to see the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace and "As You Like It" at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. London is so much fun! I hope you guys are all safe and well. E-mail me your address if you want me to send you a postcard - amy_jean1999@hotmail.com

Ta!
