+10 pounds (thanks to ria) and other highlights of my day
just got back from ria's birthday dinner. thanks riaaA!
but more of that later. i'm doing this in semi-chronological order.
had a bad thesis day.
snippets from a conversation i had this morning:
gwen: gino, my thesis isn’t working =(
gino: why, what happened?
gwen: i don’t like. because if i tell you, i’ll start whining and complaining and no one will like me anymore.
gino: hehehe. it’s okay, just let it all out =)
gwen: my thesis got contaminated again. and i can’t afford to have any further contamination because iud’s are expensive. and i had to make a second batch of tryptone soy broth because i got it wrong the first time…
gino: that’s okay, at least you got something done today...

gwen: gino, are you coming back to the lab after class?
gino: i could, why?
gwen: wala lang…starbucks tayo. hehe…
gino: i have to leave soon e…
…
gino: why ba?
gwen: my thesis isn't working and my pants got stained with clorox in the lab...
gino: sige na nga, let’s go to starbucks na lang, so you’ll feel better.
…
gwen: gino, can i rant some more, just for another two minutes?
gino: okay...
gwen: i feel out of sorts. i told my friend i'd be at her birthday dinner, but i still don't have a ride, and i hate it because when i tell people that i'll be there, i really will be there...i'm oc that way, and i hate it when my schedule gets ruined blah blah blah blah blah….
thank God for friends who listen to you even when you’re at your worst =)
anyhoo, because ginoginogino went to starbucks with me, guess what i got? a starbucks card for the 2005 starbucks planner! i really really want one. twenty more drinks to go...!

ria's birthday dinner
ria's birthday dinner was soOo fun! and there was soOo much food! loved the taco salad.
useful things I learned at ria’s:
- bridge (c/o celine). another card game i can add to my repertoire. prior to this, i only knew pusoy-dos and tong-its, which i had learned from my freshman card-playing days with my old block, MIS block S4. i must say, the game is quite interesting. it requires a lot of careful thought and strategy (a.k.a. i am a slow learner)
- effective haggling techniques (c/o celine, jolo, cla). must go bargain hunting, can’t wait to put them into practice.
after dinner we did magic mike in ria's den. it was soOo much fun! although i couldn't carry a tune if my life depended on it...

back at starbucks, we were talking about making plans for the future, but being prepared to accept it when not all of them come to pass. when you're a kid, whatever plans you have are so easy to achieve. but as you get older and your dreams become bigger, if, how, and when you'll achieve these dreams becomes less certain.
i'm graduating pre-med in march, and to enter the medical profession, you need to commit to at least five years of schooling after college, and even more if you want to specialize and/or subspecialize in a particular field. obviously, this requires some serious mapping out of your life.
but what happens if i don't get into this med school? what happens if i don't get accepted for internship or residency abroad? what happens if somewhere along the way i realize that it really isn't for me?
kinda scary.

okay, so ria just turned 20, and i'm next in line. i can't believe i'm turning 20 in two months!
