one really fun party = )

okay, so here goes. yesterday we held TheGUIDON 75th Anniversary Alumni Homecoming at the Westin. we've been planning this event for, oh i dunno, a year or so already, so it was really important that it turn out a success. i mean, you only turn 75 once, right?

anyhoo, for this very important event, i pieced together my outfit...just a few hours before the party. dress, borrowed from sister. shawl (which chadmeow called a "veil") bought the same day from a department store. sandals, an old pair, one of my favorites.

WELL, (executed with a ginoginogino accent), it wasn't entirely my fault that i was at the pubroom pressing until 1030 pm the previous night. but that aside, i don't dress up very often. as you may have already noticed.

i'm glad to say that my outfit turned out okay. wore my hair up, and the stylist did this sort of twisted flowery design thingy that i thought was pretty neat. caught a ride with harvy, czarina, and peps (also arranged the same day) to the hotel.

"welcome, alumni. please register at the table and have a seat inside. what year were you in TheGUIDON? dadadadaah..." ushering all the old[er] people inside was kinda fun. the really really really old ones were so cute. the oldest alumnus was a GUIDONeer in the 30's. gosh. i can't imagine myself being that old.

and dong puno's keynote speech was really inspiring. it's great to know that my experiences as a GUIDONeer will remain a significant part of my life even twenty years or thirty years down the road.

and everyone looked really nice. it's fun seeing your friends in nice clothes once in a while, as opposed to normal schoolday jeans and shirt = )

as themiseducated put it, everything went great. the food was great. the ambiance was great. the company was great. the chocolate and gelato selection were great. but most importantly, the alumni had a great time.

i'm really glad i'm part of this org, and i'm really glad i'm part of this edboard. everyone did such a great job. we didn't really have a lot of high expectations for this party, given the prep time (or lack of it) that we had, contacting alumni and planning the details and what not. but in the end, everything turned out great.

edboard (themiseducated,  c_doremi, and 24fps on livejournal), twenty-five years from now, it'll be TheGUIDON's 100th anniversary. and i'll probably be seated in the same table as you guys. and i'll be 44, and hopefully i'll still be all smiley-smile. and i'll have kids and be the director of some big-shot medical center. and it'll be our turn to reminisce.

but this year, it was our party. and even though we had a lot of flops along the way, we did okay. woohoo for us =)

in closing, point of reflection.

two things that boys will never understand:

1. killer heels.

2. tight-fitting dresses that keep you from filling your plate even though the Westin's longest buffet and luscious chocolate fountain beckon you to eat like there's no tomorrow.

ah, the complications of being a girl.

-------

P.S. watched national treasure at rockwell today with my family. they're here for the long weekend. i found it pretty good, unexpectedly. i couldn't blink the whole movie, for fear of missing something = ) yup, it was that exciting. well, it's always nice to be pleasantly surprised, as opposed to going to a movie that's all hyped up but turns up nothing (a.k.a. alexander).

P.P.S. following that thread, i was talking with a friend over coffee the other day, and i now know why the gay portrayal of alexander in the movie bothered me so much. i mean, he was probably gay in real life, anyway, right? okay, so the real reason is that i couldn't identify with all those gay people the film. i saw alexander expecting to be entertained, and me being the mushy and maybe even cheesy sort, entertainment meant a love story, a la troy. and i didn't get that, so i sunk into boredom about halfway through the movie.

P.P.P.S. another thing i didn't like about alexander was the endless battle scenes. the first one was okay--people who took Hi 18 have told me all about the macedonian phalanx thingy. but the succeeding battle scenes were all the same, and, as i said, i sunk into boredom halfway through the movie. so given that everyone seems to be giving their take on the movie, this one's mine.
