Review of 2x08:

A slightly spoilery (no huge plot details but some interesting hints) review of Sins of the Father can be found here.

The more I read about this episode, the more hopeful I get about how good it will. This sounds like it will be an epic Arthur episode and by the sounds of things Morgana will be getting some really interesting development too (we're going to hear some more about her parentage? WOOHOO. FINALLY.)

The only issue I have here is my increasing frustration over the fact that the show can't ever seem to give Gwen and Morgana decent screen time in the same episode this year. Whenever Gwen (and, usually, her relationship with Arthur) gets a heavy focus, Morgana fades from view and vice versa. So far the only episode that has come close to dealing with both women properly in one episode has been Lancelot and Guinevere, which dealt with Morgana's reactions to what was happening about as much as it could have given the limited screen time of an episode.

We already have canonical aknowledgement that they are best friends (and it's pretty obvious that Gwen may be Morgana's only friend, currently, aside from Merlin - and Morgana knows Gwen better than she knows Merlin, for obvious sekrit!magic reasons). Surely, when one is effected by something, the other's reaction should be treated with some significance (in the way that if Arthur is affected by something, Merlin is given at least a scene in which to react and vice versa).

I get that the problem is that Gwen and Morgana's personal story arcs are essentially pulling them apart; Gwen is being pulled further into the heart of Camelot, and Morgana is gradually being driven out; unlike Merlin and Arthur, whose individual story arcs are pushing them closer together. So really, there's very little grounds for Gwen to comment when Morgana is off running round with the druids, just as Morgana has no grounds on which to really react to the Gwen/Arthur issue because so far she doesn't seem to know about it, and, like I said, her focus is outside of Camelot right now, whilst Gwen's is inside.

But still. They are best friends. It shouldn't be hard for the writers to work in one brief scene in an episode where one girl is getting most of the focus for the other girl to react to what's going on.
