Speculation for 2x04 - a different perspective

Sep 24, 2009 12:43

By now many of you will have seen the synopsis for episode 2x04 (I've pasted it under the cut for those who haven't).

Just wondering if anyone else has the same prescription slash goggles I do, because my mind is on overdrive. la_esmeralda_ agrees that some serious speculation is in order.

**

Santiago Cabrera returns as the dashing Lancelot, in the fourth episode of the magical family drama series. When Gwen is kidnapped, Arthur goes to her rescue, but Lancelot gets there first.

Gwen is mistaken for Morgana and kidnapped by savage outlaw Hengist. When Uther Pendragon refuses to pay a ransom for her, however, Arthur defies his father and ventures into dangerous enemy territory to fight for Gwen's freedom.

Merlin suspects that Arthur's devotion to Gwen is more than just that of a prince to one of his subjects. But how will Arthur react when he finds that Gwen is not alone in Hengist's castle? She and Lancelot have found each other again, and powerful feelings have been rekindled...

Lancelot is played by Santiago Cabrera, Gwen by Angel Coulby, Arthur by Bradley James, Morgana by Katie McGrath, Hengist by James Cosmo, Uther Pendragon by Anthony Head and Merlin by Colin Morgan.

Okay, so we know this is going to have some Arthur/Gwen development, but really, has anyone else figured on how slashy this could be as well? HEAR ME OUT:

We know this is the ep that finds Gwen in Morgana's dress. How she gets into the dress is anyone's guess. Could be she did it to dissuade Merlin from putting it on instead (judging from the trailer). Could be this is the same ep that has Morgana outside in her underclothes swinging a sword, and they were actually outside "camping" and Gwen wound up in her dress before they were ambushed (use your imaginations, folks >_>).

THE POINT IS, she's mistaken for Morgana, because clearly the barbarians don't know what Morgana looks like, and Gwen doesn't disabuse them. To protect Morgana, obviously, knowing that she's dead as soon as Uther realises Morgana is safe. ♥ And Morgana, when she finds out or when she gets back to the castle, will obviously fight tooth and nail to tear off after Gwen, but is... restrained, possibly? Can anyone else think of a reason she wouldn't be there with Arthur?

So ultimately Gwen is saved, but now there's this issue of Gwen putting her life in danger for Morgana. Anyone else hoping for a conversation in which they angst about their mutual self-sacrificing? Anyone else totally going to write it if there isn't one?

Because how nicely does this follow the events of 1x12 in which Morgana gets herself thrown in the dungeons for Gwen?

Just speculation of course; things may transpire COMPLETELY differently. I just couldn't contain my feeling that this episode may have background dynamics at work wot have nothing to do with the menz.

THOUGHTS? Tell me I'm not delusional?
