I feel like I really am in Office Space. When Peter is describing to the Bobs what he does on a regular day, mine is similar.
I’m supposed to be here at 8:30, but I usually roll in at 8:40. I stop by the café to pick up breakfast, so it looks like I’ve been here; I’ve just been waiting in line. My boss is usually at her desk when I walk in the door, so I stop and chat with her about the previous evening’s events. About 9ish, our other co-worker comes in, so we have to rehash her evening. By 9:30 the coffee is brewed and ready, so we make our mugs, sit around and bitch about the buying office upstairs until about 10, when we all step outside for a smoke break. We come back in about 15 minutes later, I check all my online things - yahoo, myspace, livejournal, pitchfork, etc., and I finally get to work about 10:30. I work for a good hour; taking breaks for the bathroom and to email friends. By 11:30, we stop working so we can talk about where we’re going for lunch, which we never actually leave for until noonish. Get back by 1, 1:30 (depending on if we had to stop by Starbucks or Target, or our store in Meyerland), and work til 3. We go outside again for another break, come back in about 3:30, work til 4:30, and finally we discuss what we’re doing that evening. We leave at 4:55 on the dot.
That’s my typical day. I’d say in any given week I probably only work about 12 hours of the 40 that I am here. I'm not being challenged and should get a promotion with a big raise, right?
