Happy things

Although it is 45 degrees and raining for Memorial Day weekend, it is not actually snowing at our house, unlike places in neighboring counties.

Although I won't have everything ready for the party tomorrow that I wanted to have done, we got the hedges trimmed, the hot tub cleaned, the basement and garage cleaned up, a load of trash hauled to the dump, and my soapstone counters oiled. I cleared out a couple knots where junk accumulated, too. I love that our Memorial Day weekend party forces us to get our house ready for the summer.

All three of our kids are home for the occasion. We all five went to the movies last night for B's birthday. I don't know how many more occasions we'll have like this. I am grateful for the ones we get.

C is doing a lot of the cooking for the party, and it is a big help. In fact, all the kids have reached the age where they are help that is helpful. (Perhaps that's because they aren't children. Even my youngest; he is turning 14 this weekend.)

River is turning into a decent dog. Today is the first anniversary of Ela's death and I still miss her. River definitely still suffers in the comparison, but is gradually getting better, so that occasionally she is a good dog.

It's a hard day for me today, so that is why I wrote out my happy things. There is much that is wonderful in my life. I need to focus on that.
