Black Friday in a Small Town

Nov 26, 2010 19:18

We walked downtown shopping for Black Friday.

Small Boy bought three books: one for each of his siblings and one for himself from the locally-owned independent bookstore.

I bought socks for Small Boy and flannel sheets for Eldest Son and a photo album for my Father-in-Law at the locally-owned independent department store.  I didn't have my store credit card with me so they called the office to ask my charge number and then entered it in the register without asking any identifying information.

We stopped off at the locally-owned independent appliance store for a part we needed to fix our 30 year old dishwasher.  They didn't charge us.  We ran into the locally-owned independent furniture store so I could show B. the table I liked for our fantasy island home.

We stopped off at the game store and chatted with the owner about what games are best to buy.  I'll walk back later and pick some up for some out of town family members.

Most people we're giving honey or homemade things to.  Even the photo album is mostly so I can build a Memory Book for the Octogenarian with dementia: "Here's your Son B.____ as a child, and here is is now."  One person per page, with large captions.  I've heard it's helpful.  This is a pretty slippery slope he's sliding down.

Anyway, I didn't have time to stay and buy games, because we had to rush to the 3:30 showing of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1.  It's Small Boy's half birthday so we told him we'd take him to half a movie.  :-)  The theater owner sold us our tickets and then was holding the door for us as the movie ended and we streamed out.  We thanked him politely and told him we'd be back.

Then we walked home, carrying our bags from three stores.
