Another tax season is winding up

Sep 29, 2017 00:30

I feel a certain amount of self-loathing when I consider the fact that I have five returns completely ready to do still. I'm so busy with my new business that I can't get to them except in the early mornings and late nights. Week-ends are busy with traveling to Maine or to Kentucky or tending to children or getting chores done around the house; somehow I never get worktime on week-ends anymore. (Not desk time, anyway. I do a bunch of reading for work on the week-ends.)

T-18 and there are 17 returns to do. 5 are on my desk as I head to bed. 5 are scheduled to meet with me over the next two weeks. 7 more are planning to get me the information sometime, procrastinators who are assuming that I have nothing else to do besides drop everything to get to their stuff when they finally get it to me. I have two time slots left available for working on the five returns still on my desk and the seven returns still to come. I can squeeze the five left on my desk out next week if I work nights and Columbus Day week-end. But I hate that I'm down to the wire like this with procrastinators still expecting to land.

My new business is going well. Very well. It is eating up all my time. I'm liking the work I do, so the amount of time a new business takes doesn't faze me as much as when I tried to revamp it four years ago. This is a good busy, a solid successful busy.

But, sheesh, the tax practice has become the thing I moonlight doing. And those seven people who are going to get back to me soon... they weigh on me.

revamping business, work, countdown
