Bubbles in action

I was walking with my husband this weekend and mentioned that Donald Trump had told CNN that being president was harder than he imagined. I said that I kept waiting for him to resign, that I figured he would grow bored of having a job and quit when the pressure became unpleasant.

My husband said, "no one has ever done that, quit being president." I pointed out that Nixon had, and for similar reasons, Watergate being a scandal associated with his election. My husband said, "but no one cares about that. It's not like people are demonstrating against Trump or calling for an investigation."

At this point my jaw is on the ground. The Women's March? The March for Science? The March for Climate Change awareness? The demonstration requiring he release his taxes before he submit tax legislation? The allegations of breaking the emoluments clause? I told him there was an active investigation into Flynn's dealing with the Russians, and there are twelve Republican senators calling for him to disclose his taxes. How could he (my husband) consider this not to be pressure and/or demonstrations? What sources of news does he use?

Oh, says my husband, he actually only reads the sports section of the newspaper and listens exclusively to sports programming on the radio.

He literally was unaware that people are unhappy with Trump.

This, despite the fact that our seventeen year old child was downtown at an anti-Trump rally as we were speaking. (The climate rally.)

I note this as a piece of data. A 62 year old white man has noticed no disturbance in the force. Tom Brady's jersey was found, all is well in his world. (Almost. The Bruins didn't make it into the finals and the Yankees beat the Red Sox this weekend, so he was a bit glum, actually.)
