wait. erick is not right. you can use anywhere from 8-10lb weights and still get sleek and defined muscles. he is coming at it from a boy's angle...and boys have a completely different mindset when it comes to weight loss and weight lifting. seek fitness magazine or shape magazine for further info.

ps. the beer isn't so bad, maybe try that lowcarb beer? or a vodka and diet tonic if you just can't resist?

having worked at a bar, you would know this: do bars stock diet tonic?

i guess it depends on the bar. i don't think snookers had it. i'm sure some classier, more diet-friendly bars would.

his thing is that i have fat/weight to lose first. i need to lower my body fat around the muscles before i start toning them with weights or i will have toned arms under fat making me look bulky. very low weight lots of reps = good.

he is an "endurance cardiovascular strength" guy not a weight lifter... think 40 minutes on the rowing machine at level 10.

technically, you won't bulk up with muscle, women do not bulk up like men do. you may notice that you have a more streamlined look and that your clothes fit better, but in this case you'd also notice that you're not dropping the weight, just becoming more...shall we say...compact. you will be getting smaller, but it's definetely more accentuated when you lose lbs. that's where the cardio comes in. plus if you only work out on weights and dont change your cardio or eating habits, you're more likely to hit a plateau. but you will become smaller, stronger, and more streamlined, but you won't be losing weight.

no offense to erick, but i learned to stop taking weight advice from boys because their bodies build up to weights and lose lbs in a much different way from women. it's like me trying to give advice to a body builder.

i have some fitness/shape articles about this, let me see if i can find them for you...

for sure. the bad thing is from rowing my upper body was designed to bulk. we lifted SO much heavy weights and i every time i start a workout program that involves weights i get bigger..it's like my upper body muscles have memory that says "get big we have to race!" so my plan is to do 45min cardio followed by arm exercises that involve light weight. i know light weight is good, but for now i need to lose fat BAD!!! :)
