Who said it would be easy?

Wheiw, sorry for the really weak flow of entries here, I'm having some serious problems with my internet connection in Residence. I got infected by a worm several times, and I'm having troubles removing it, so I decided to just disconnect from the network until I can fix it. I'll probably just reformat my HD (for the 6th time this month @_@) and go buy a good antivirus and firewall software. I also have to find an other version of Windows (or buy the actual thing x_x;) because the one I have right now is kinda buggy and doesn't recognize my USB ports x_x;. I hope I can work this out soon enough, because it kinda sucks to have go to the lab whenever I need to access the internet. And no IMs there for me either TT.

Anyway, a whole lot has happened in the last few days. My roommate arrived on Saturday, he's a pretty funny and cool guy, but I'm seeing more and more that we're total opposites, socially speaking. He's the ultimate party dude, and I've realized in the recent days that I am really not such a dude. Regardless though, we get along fairly well and life in residence is pretty fun. There was a big party going on Sunday night going on in the 3rd floor RA's room and the recreation room, but I thought it was kinda boring since since I barely knew anyone there, and it was just too loud and crowded to meet and get to know anyone, at least for me. So I just spent most of the evening in my room. Only problem is, my room/suite is located right beetween the RA's room and the rec room on the third floor, so it was pretty noisy 'till 2 AM. Bah.

I did get to make some friends and meet cool people though, during day time. Among them, a dude from British Columbia who's also taking animation, a couple people from the US, two dudes from Brazil, a girl from Korea, a girl from Quebec (yay!), and this girl in animation who's from Oakville but speaks OMG perfect french and is really fun and passionate about animation. It's getting pretty casual in residence and some people just leave their doors open for anybody walking by to just come in and chat. There are also some awesome games organized by the residence staff, which are mostly about doing crazy stuff and getting to meet other people. Cool stuff.

I had my first class yesterday morning, which was the painting component of Layout and Storyboarding with Tim McCormack. He looks pretty cool. Doesn't exactly radiate energy, but he seems pretty passionate about what he does and seems to have a take on art in general which is pretty open and similar to mine. I might be biased since I really like painting, but it's still pretty cool. After that I was supposed to have Art History but the class got canceled since the teacher couldn't make it. She did leave us an assignement for next week though x_x;. So I went to buy my textbook, which in turn made me question my taking the class after all. The book, at a quick glanse, looks bleh and boring as hell, and it costs 130$ (ack!). So, since I can probably get it credited (/get and advanced standing for it) because I took 3 semesters of art history in Cegep, I'm gonna try it. The lady at the office seemed pretty optimistic about it, so I just gotta get some paper work done, get some other papers from my Cegep, and I should be good to go!

Today I had three classes. First thing in the morning was Storyboarding with Barry Parker, he showed us some works of students from previous years (including Arnold Tsang's!) and basically explained the course of the semester for his class. He looks pretty nice. Then we had a lecture on computer methodology with Michael Something, I'm kinda iffy about him. The guy looks a bit full of himself, and it's his first year teaching a class. I also thought he was making the picture a little too sweet for us, saying stuff like "in ten years you guys will be leading the industry, some of you might probably get academy awards" and "Sheridan is definately the best animation school in North America". I mean, it's nice that he tries to pump us up, and there's probably some truth to what he says, but he didn't even talk about the flip sides, or all the hard work we'd have to go through to get there. I don't want to be comforted, I want to be challenged! Eh, we'll see how this goes. Last class was animation, which was supposed to be with Vivien Ludlow, but it turns out the teacher for my group will actually be Michelle Hannan. She looks TONS of fun, she's really bubbly and funny, so that should be an interesting class. She showed us her student film from UCLA (I think), honnestly I was far from being impressed by the choppy animation, simplistic designs and so-so storyline, but I don't really mind, I've got all the knowledge I need in The Animator's Survival Kit (Very awesome book, btw), and The Illusion of Life, by Disney masters Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas.

Ok so that's about it for now, hopefully I'll have my computer problems solved soon enough.
