I really need to write more reviews again, so I remember what I liked and why.
I went to see Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation today. For the second time, actually, because my usual movie partner didn't have time two weeks ago.
The Mission Impossible franchise got so much better when
1) the movies stopped taking themselves too seriously
2) they became about a team instead of a single character
And I very much hope this exact team stays for many more movies to come. Rogue Nation isn't quite Ghost Protocol, I don't think any MI movie will ever be able to beat that one. But it comes close.
And once again it's mostly the characters. The team. The friendships. There is such a focus on that in this one. Ethan, and Brandt and Benji and Luther, it's so great to see every single one of them again, see them support each other, and clash occasionally.
Ilsa was a very interesting addition as well.
My only peeve is the absence of Jane. There is no reason why she wouldn't be there. She was part of the team, she took up the phone. Where did she disappear to?
It almost feels like the PTB decided that there's only room for one female character or something. Very disappointed about that.
But other than that the movie is tons of fun. The storyline is solid, the action is great, the humour is spot on. There was even spontaneous applause in the theatre during a certain "high speed chase".
More of this, please.
Another fun part of Sunday morning movies is always the little race back home, trying to make it in time for the formula 1 race start. I managed it by about 3 minutes today.
