Thank you everyone for your concern and kind wishes. I'm safe, the fire didn't come any closer than a couple of kilometers from me and it has now turned and is heading away from where I am. (good for me, not so good for others). It is still burning out of control and there's 3 water bombers inthe air trying to fight it, plus well over 100 fire fighters on the ground trying to beat it. We have fire services from several hundred kilometers away come in to try and contain the fire, but no luck so far. We even have a couple of very large water bombing helicopters coming from Victoria and several fire fighters to assist in getting this fire under control.
At this stage, 59 homes have been confirmed burnt to the ground and many more damaged. Fortunately, no loss of human life at this stage, although several people have been taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. As for the wild life, family pets and such... No one knows how many have been lost.
It seems so weird that our eastern states cousins have been hammerd by a severe cyclone and suffered through major floods whilst here in the West, we're having severe drought and now this major bush fire. And then there's all my friends in the USA that are going through these terrible snow storms and blizzards! I swear, someone has seriously peed Mother Nature off.
My Stepson and his wife were evacuated as their home was right in the fire area and at this stage we still don't know if their home is one of the ones that has been destroyed, damaged or if it's okay. Even though the fire is moving away, it's still far too dangerous for people to return so we have many main roads still closed. One of the bridges on one of our main highways has also been destroyed so the local police etc are looking at alternative routes traffic will be able to use until the bridge is rebuilt. Could be interesting as that's also the main highway and only one I can use when driving to see my son who lives in one of the country towns to the south east of me.
House is still reeking of smoke and the poor dog's water bowl is full of ash yet again; but I'm still here, still safe and have my home standing so that is all that matters.
Again, thanks to everyone out there for your support and i'm sorry I haven't answered you individually. Once things start to calm down a bit more I will reply to each and every one of you.
