Title: Heero gets smex from Duo
Pairing: Heero/Duo
Challenge: February challenge, no options left/PTSD/smex
Warnings: smex!
Very short! 400 words.
“Is that it?” Heero looked down at Duo, a faint look of disappointment crossing his face, “It doesn’t look like much.”
“Look.” Sighed Duo, “I know it’s small, ok? But it will do the trick.”
“I’m just worried it won’t work.”
“Look, are you insulting my competence? Need I remind you that I have had much more experience than you?” Duo huffed aggressively, forcing Heero to look at his face while he chewed him out. “It’s SmEx. Small Explosive, that’s the point. It’s easy to hide and it packs a huge punch. It will do the trick.”
Heero sighed, sitting taking the chair next to Duo and putting his hands on the table. “Sorry.” He looked physically pained as he said the single word. He had been saying it more and more often, but Duo could definitely sense that it was no easier each time.
“It’s ok, buddy.” Duo soothed, placing a hand on his shoulder and giving it a gentle pat. “Are you sure you want to go through with this? I mean… it’s Relena… you couldn’t even kill her during the war.”
“I have to.” Heero twirled the small ball of explosive in his fingers, nervously avoiding Duo’s gaze. “Maybe it won’t kill her. Maybe it will just make her wake up and see what the world has turned into under her rule. I don’t care, something has to change.”
“Do you have to be the one to do it?” Duo’s hand slipped from his shoulder, bunching up in his lap where he wrung his hands together.
“Who else? Life is cheap, especially mine. I can do it, so I should.”
“Your life isn’t cheap, Heero, you have friends. We’d miss you.”
“Yes, friends I can’t even talk to.” Heero’s jaw set and he turned back to Duo, locking his gaze in an attempt to prove his resolve. “Friends who I hurt, friends who I endanger because the mere sight of them can throw me into violent flashbacks.”
“You’re getting better!” Duo protested, this time he was the one unable to meet Heero’s gaze. “You’re talking with us, and you’re dealing with it.”
“No, Duo. I’m coping. I’ll never be fixed, and you’re all better off without me.” Heero stood up, pocketing the explosive. He gave Duo one final look, and left the house for his meeting with Queen Relena.
