Best Lollapalloza set: My Morning Jacket. The best live band there. I saw them last year for the first time, loved 'em, and have been hooked ever since. Granted, to be fair, they are no where near as good on the CD, but live they are unreal. I loved 'em.
Worst Lollapalloza set: Red Hot Chili Peppers. With so many hits, how could you play so many songs that no one except hard core fans know? Iunno, I felt slightly let down after the months of build-up...
Best Lollapalooza person: Random-ass hippi walking around offering chi-gong, or whatever, with a huge sign...and then we saw him actually giving it to someone.
Best Lollapalooza moment: MEETING TORQ!!!! Lead singer of Stars, my favorite band, was walking around, so I felt the need to harrass him, which of course I did. So I talked with him and got a picture with him. While Stars wasn't nearly as good here as they were at WashU, I still loved the set and the music.
Top 5 sets:
1. My Morning Jacket
2. Broken Social Scene - My first real interaction with them; it will certainly not be my last.
3. Gnarls Barkley - Cover of "Who Scared You?" sealed this one...but their songs and energy, along with the fact their lead singer looks like Jabba the Hutt and they had a hot cellist, certainly helped. Absolutly fantastic.
4. The Flaming Lips - Musically, a lot was left to be desired. However, easily the best performance of the entire festival. Energy was through the roof, and roadies dressed as Batman and Superman? Comon now...Very, very good.
5. (tie) Feist - Amazing music and lyrics, and she looks like a combo of Hillary Swank and Jenny. Any questions?
5. (tie) Iron & Wine - Quite possibly the lowest energy show of the entire weekend. But opening with "Naked as We Came" and ending with "Trapese Man?" Just phenominal.
Top 3 letdowns:
1. Red Hot Chili Peppers
2. The Shins - Lead singer looked as if he did not want to be there at all. Despite the insnaely high energy from the rest of the band ("And now...the Shins hack!") the lead singer just did not seem to want to be there. And that kills a lot of it...
3. Broken Social Scene - Music = Fucking awesome. Time? Notsomuch. They happened to play right before the Chili Peppers, so they only had a 45 minute set. Those 45 minutes rocked, but they were shorted 15 minutes, and therefore the crowd was shorted 15 minutes.
