Sometimes, "MADE" let's you down...

MTV puts out some good shows. Ok, that's a lie, for the most part, they are truly horrible shows who are only successful because they show the ugly side of humanity, and we as peole love to be voyeurs into the side of life that we claim to hate, yet often truly wish to experience at least once. The exception to that rule is "MADE", a show which I have commented about on LJ before. I find "MADE" to be a very uplifting show, that helps tell kids and teens that they really can be something if they just put some effort into it. More than that, though, the show doesn't shy away from the often ugly realities of the teen social scene and the way that kids in high school often completley destroy each other emmotionaly.

With that said, the episode I'm watching right now is one that I'vce seen before...and it just completley pisses me off. It's about a young man from a small town in Vermont named Josh. Josh is 17, 40% Body Fat (which is morbidly obese), gay (not that there's anything wrong with that!), and a male cheerleader. His dream is to make the Varsity soccer squad. He says he wants to be able to make male friends and connect with his dad. Unfortuantly, he never shows ONE OUNCE of actual desire to be a good soccer player. His only motivations seem to be to hang with the girls and lose some weight to impress "boys". Frankly, the whole episode pissess me off.

Holly says all the time that I'm ridiculously hard on overweight people. She says that I, of anyone, should be more sensitive because of the way I grew up. I think that's exactly why I'm not syjmpethetic. I sit and watch shows like this, hear them whine and moan, remember what it felt like, and then can't figure out why they don't do the thigns it takes to change. Have I lost sympathy for the little fat child inside me? It's possible. But frankly, I'd rather take my heartless message to the massess in an effort to push them to change, instead of coddling their current state. I know, Richard Simmons I'm not.
