Thoughts on various Trek episodes tonight (spoilers):
"Whispers" (DS9)
Brief plot recap: Standard conspiracy episode, O'Brien sees everyone on the station acting weird, so they're probably evil.
It's got a good plot--twist on an old cliche and all that, but the execution wasn't particularly impressive. The acting was just off, partially deliberate, but everyone just seemed bored. Quark and Bashir weren't bad, but no one else was up to par. The ending felt really rushed, and there was stuff in the middle that easily could've been cut.
But some very nice Bashir/O'Brien exchanges.
"The Savage Curtain" (TOS)
Plot recap: Abraham Lincoln shows up, and some Vulcan guy. And then some evil people, and there's the customary good vs. evil battle with styrofoam rocks. Gosh, I wonder who's going to win this one.
Hrm, okay...any episode that contains the line "I am Abraham Lincoln"...well...*headdesk*
But Scotty did get to wear a kilt.
And the special effects--good God, the special effects.
As for the plot--now we will see that evil will always triumph. Because good is dumb....*sigh* Damned narrative imperative. It is not logical. It burnssssesss, preciousssss.
Spent the rest of the episode trying to remember if Kahless is actually evil. If not, that could've been a bit interesting--I don't find Klingons particularly fascinating, but you've got the founders of two completely contradictory ideologies there...sadly, one of them won't be invented for thirty years.
Overall pretty bad, and not even in particularly amusing ways.
