[ From within the courtyard of Iki, Ed's reclining with an impressive selection of books stacked around him. Here and there are spare sheets of paper, pens, and a couple notebooks that appear to have several spots marked in each. One of these books (Smaller Chemical Analysis) is settled in his lap

[That impressive stack of books is only about to get larger as Alphonse comes into the courtyard toting another stack of ten. Pieces of papers, notes no doubt, hang at random between the pages.]

Are you still out here, Brother?

[He asks as he attempts to peak over the top of his stack, which he's attempting to carefully balance in between his hands. By the time he gets close enough to notice the cat, he can't see it to well as he stands behind Edward with his arms full.

By the time he sets the stack down, all he can do is huff as he takes up a lean against the topmost scientific journal. The cat is noticed almost instantly now that he isn't so distracted.]

Ah -- a kitten! [Alphonse's eyes light up immediately as he inches up and behind Edward from behind. He bends, hands coming to rest on his knees as he looks down at the small animal.]

What are you doing here little guy?

[transmutates]

[ Still a bit put out by the whole situation (he has stuff to work on, dammit!), Ed looks up at Al with an annoyed expression. He knows what's coming next and as cute as the critter sitting in his lap is, he doubts either of their houses will allow a pet. ]

Getting in the way of my reading, that's what he's doing.

[He doesn't go there yet, but yes, always and forever in the back of his mind he wonders if he can keep it. He stretches easily over Edward to give the tiny little fluff ball of cute a soft pet. Of course, as soon as the kitten mews happily in reply to the attention, Al feels warmth spreading through out his chest as his heart melts.]

You sure are cute...

[He exclaims as he carefully scoops the tiny animal up and off Edward's book and into the palms of his hand. Bringing it up to his face he gives it a loving nuzzle. So soft, fuzzy, and warm~.]

Don't pay any attention to, Brother. He just gets a little grumpy when something interrupts his reading time.

[He pets the cat again before he lowers himself down to the floor to sit behind Edward.]

[ Huffing again as the kitten is picked up, he brushes cat hair off the pages of his book and makes a face at Al. ]

Do not.

[ And turning a page, he goes silent for a few seconds before a pout begins to form on his lips. ]

There's no room in my place for him, so you can't keep him there.

Should you not find yourself in receipt of a better offer, I'd be willing to buy you a drink. Perhaps more than one if you've the inclination.

You'd pay? I'd be pretty dumb to pass that up.

It's something of a habit, I'm afraid. I have to spend the money somehow, and I confess myself lacking in the desire for material possessions.

[ He shrugs. ]

And to be quite honest, I could use one myself.

I never kept a whole lot of stuff either, but that might've been 'cause I was usually traveling. But I'll take you up on that offer. Got a place you prefer?

That's Al, not me. [ Such a liar. He's so tsun towards cats. ]

[ A pause as he makes a note of Naruto using the voice function. Huh. He usually uses video. As a result, Ed's expression becomes somewhat dubious, but he shrugs anyway. ]

He'll be more of a pest and I doubt the old man at Shakuraku will approve.
