I prefer a universal single payer system like France myself.
But the Democrats are too divided on the issue and the Republicans have decided to vote against anything Obama supports, even the stuff they initially supported.
Now we'll be lucky if we can get them to ban insurance companies from denying coverage due to pre-existing conditions, which would be a good thing and better than nothing.
The elections? Well the republicans might take a majority in the senate, but on the bright side we might see a few of the "blue dogs" (aka Republicans who changed party to safe face from Bush's presidency) voted out. But it'll be a good 50/50 split so it'll be even more gridlocked than it is now.
What I hope for is that there will be more Independent/3rd party people voted in.
Right now my biggest fear is the federal government cutting spending while we're still barely out of the recession causing the economy right back into it. Right behind that is the tea party idiots who don't realize they are a hate group.
On the bright side blogs/twitter/ect, and the newer generations coming in to power really don't care about traditional medias (tv and radio) and the two parties in power.
What I see happening is the Independents grow in number and the two parties become radicalized to their extreme ideologies.

Democracy is a slow form of government if you really think about it. But do you want a tyranny because they just happen to move faster?
I think more parties and more opinions will slow things down, but it'll turn more people on to participate and follow events.
The Filibuster simply needs to go away or be scaled back. If a group is in power then they call the shots, if people have a problem with it, they need to vote people out. It could lead to problems, but I think it will drive people to the polls ultimately.
But if you have multiple parties (or better yet independent representatives) then you might have an environment where people will be in the mood to compromise more and not hold to their core ideologies as much.
I don't think limiting opinion or voices is what our government is all about.
