Writer's Block: LiveJournal Book Club

Apr 26, 2009 19:54

I was doing something similiar to this on facebook the other night.  One of the greatest books that I've ever read has to be Milan Kundera's  The Unbearable Lightness of Being (Warning spoilers in link).

What stays with me, even after all the years since I've first read this book, is the relationships that the charaters have.  When I first read this book, I had just came out of an relationship where I was dating two different woman, one of whom was also sleeping with one of my best friends on the side.  Although I did not know what to call it at the time, it was my first brush with something close to polyamory.

When I set the book down, wondering at its sheer power and moving elquonce, I called up my friend.  We talked, we laughed....and forgave.
Which if i remember, bothered the girl to no end.

I remember thinking "I forgive everyone that ever caused me pain."    Even today, I sometimes return to this simple book and reread passages or think about it.   It was what I needed at that particular time in my life.

Also highly recommend for a varitey of different reasons.   War with the Newts

My favorite novel:  The Dhamra Bums
