"Either I have one or I have both...now that's living the high life."

I'd like to give a shoutout to the fine folks at Miller for their incredible umbrella division.  Their large, durable golf umbrella kept me dry through the worst of today's storms.  I'd also like to thank Rod and the other fine folks at Cellars Wine & Spirits in Roseville for acquiring the umbrella and then passing it along to yours truly free of charge.

So.  I live in a new place with new people.  I have new classes and I walk a different way to Ferguson.  I have a new instrument to suck it up on.  I have a new lady friend.  Somehow, all of these things are working out in rather spectacular fashion.

I live in a house with fifteen people, most of them from the marching band.  Somehow it doesn't feel too crowded.  Somehow we all get along famously.  Somehow things get cleaned up and stay that way.  Somehow it's exactly what I wanted out of this wacky idea.  The House of Tashima stands as one...all six or nine or seventeen of us (I lost count).

Marching band is going well, mainly because I've been trying not to be a total dick to everyone.  It's a fresh new idea, and I think it's all good...looking at the bigger picture, I'm not thrilled with Diem so far this season, but I guess I'm still rooting for the guy.  He's a big reason why I got into band in the first place, and I don't want to see him blow it or go crazy or both.

I took bass trombone lessons this summer with one John Tranter, and got a great many things accomplished not only with that but with my playing in general.  I've been fortunate enough to find time for lessons with him this fall as well.  With Jazz II and basketball band, I'm getting more than enough time to play as loud and low as I possibly can.  Apparently playing bass is good for my eupho playing too...I'm getting a better, more focused sound out of that cursed instrument.  And in spite of my totally bombing my ensemble audition, I lucked out yet again: we're playing Holst II, Nimrod, and several other pieces that feature prominent eupho parts.  So!  If you want a good chance to hear me/Symphonic Band play, check out our first concert: Wednesday 12 October 2005 at Ted Mann.  Downbeat is at 730pm.  Price is free.

Elena is...well, Elena is just what I'm looking for.  If you really want to hear all about it ring me up and we'll talk.  Suffice it to say that things are going far better than I ever could have imagined.

It's raining out.  I like rain.
