Group Dissolution

I started a D&D group here in Santa Barbara almost 10 years ago. We had a good core of 3 players back then, including myself. We switched from 2e AD&D to 3rd edition together. Other players came and went. Some we didn't regret loosing, some we did.

Now one of the original three is quitting because the group has gotten out of control. Power-gaming and Meta-gaming are taking over, he says. He's right, but I've been ignoring it as best I could in favor of keeping people in the game.

I'm not sure whether I agree or disagree with his leaving over this. I understand that he's not having fun any longer and I have to admit I haven't been either. What to do...what to do...
