[Background]
To understand Ionian Sergeant Anise Tatlin (Oracle Knights, Fon Master Guard), you have to understand her parents, and their lack of understanding money.

Anise's parents, Oliver and Pamela Tatlin, are in the employ of the Order of Lorelei, the religion on Auldrant dedicated to the reading of the Score. They are very poor with money, constantly responding to scams, giving their money to the poor or donating it to the Order, or countless other things that result in them having very little money.

When Anise was very young, Oliver and Pamela had landed themselves in a bit of trouble. Crippled by massive debt (And notably still oblivious to how bad the situation was), they were approached by Grand Maestro Mohs, one of the highest ranking members of the Order (More or less in charge of all the normal employees; They work alongside the Fon Master, the spiritual and figurehead leader, and the Commandant in charge of military operations). He offered to pay their debts in exchange for them working for the Order. Agreeing to this, somehow their daughter got caught up in this, and Anise was more or less blackmailed into working as Mohs' spy.

Several years later, Anise became the Fon Master Guardian, the Oracle Knight in charge of defending the Fon Master, Ion. She became his constant companion, protecting him from all danger and also becoming his closest confidant and friend; Meanwhile, she reported all information gathered during her working as Guardian back to Mohs, who was on the opposite side of an ever-growing schism in the Order from the Fon Master. Mohs believed that the world should follow the path of the Score exactly, even if it meant forceably bringing it about; Ion, along with many others, believed that the Score was simply a guide for the world to live by, and that humans should pick their own path. This schism grew and grew, eventually dividing the Order into two nearly-seperate groups.

The two countries of the world, Kimlasca-Lanvaldear and Malkuth, had always had a very tense relationship; Always on the verge of war, they managed to keep trade open, respecting the will of the people. The Score, however, predicted that the two countries would engage in a war- Mohs, dedicated as he was to fulfilling its propecies, began to set this in motion via the influence the Order has over both countries. Ion's stance on this was that war should be avoided at all costs, and so he determined that he would speak to the leaders of each country. Enlisting the help of Colonel Jade Curtiss of the Malkuthian miltary and his ship, the Land Dreadnaught Tartarus, Ion and Anise set out to right these wrongs.

Along the way, the three met up with Luke fon Fabre, a young aristocrat from Kimlasca, and Tear Grants, the sister of Van Grants, the Commandant of the Order. While on the Tartarus discussing their next course of action, the ship was attacked by the God Generals- the Oracle Knights' highest-ranking soldiers, serving directly under the Commandant. Asch, one of these generals, had arranged for the ship to be attacked- during the commotion, Anise was thrown out of a window while defending Ion.

Eventually meeting up with the group again in Kaitzur, a border town between Malkuth and Kimlasca, Anise rejoined and assisted them in defeating Arietta the Wild, one of the God Generals and the former Fon Master Guardian.

Several unimportant cities later, the group arrived in Baticul, the capitol city of Kimlasca, and Ion was captured. (This becomes a recurring theme.) Now assisted by Guy Cecil, Luke's servant and friend, and Natalia Luzu Kimlasca-Lanvaldear, the princess of Kimlasca, the group set off to find the damsel in distress Fon Master, encountering Asch again as they did- finally seeing Asch's face, the group was surprised to determine he looked just like Luke. No one really cared. Eventually they recovered Ion, and set off to do some stuff in Akzeriuth, a mining town.

Events in Akzeriuth eventually came to a head with Luke blowing it up, killing everyone except for the group due to the treachery of Van, who was also Luke's teacher. Falling into the Qliphoth, an ocean of miasma beneath the surface, the group travels to Yulia City on the Tartarus. It is revealed at this point that Luke is Asch's Replica, an exact copy made with the Seventh Fonon. Asch beats the hell out of Luke, yadda yadda yadda.

Along with Asch, the group set off to figure out Van's plan, slowly piecing it together. At this point the world starts to fall into the Qliphoth, a pool of miasma below the planet's surface, as part of Van's plan. The group splits up; Luke and Tear remained in Yulia City, Guy waited at a spring linked to Yulia City for Luke, Jade... Well, it's hard to know... And Anise and Natalia were captured by the Order. Biiiig surprise.

Several ENTIRELY unimportant events later, it is revealed that Ion, as well as Sync, one of the God Generals, are in fact Replicas of the original Fon Master, also named Ion; Having been suffering from a terminal illness that threatened his death, Mohs and Van worked together to create a Replica that they could use to their own means. This hardly affects Anise, as her loyalty to Ion remains unwavering.

Eventually, as the group continues to fight against Van, they reach Absorption Gate, a powerful temple that is one of two important fon-generating buildings. They fight and kill Van, dropping him into the core of the planet. Not much else really happens here that is important to Anise, other than the group splitting up again.

After the group joins up again (And, notably, after several more unimportant events- which happen a lot), Anise's spying is finally revealed as she betrays the group. Her parents kidnapped by Mohs, Anise takes Ion to Mt. Zaleho, a volcano connected to the Order of Lorelei. Mohs forces Ion to read the Closed Score, an incredibly draining act to perform; in order to save Tear from an illness she was suffering from, Ion gives her his Fonons, dying in the process. Entirely stricken by what she had done, Anise rejoins the group, determined to stop Mohs from his goals in order to avenge Ion.

Returning to the Order headquarters, Anise is confronted by Arietta, who challenges her to a duel in retaliation for Ion's death- Arietta cared about Ion more than anyone else, and blamed Anise entirely for his death. The group set off to Cheagle Woods to engage her in this duel, and it is on the trip that Anise fell asleep and drifted to Somarium.

[Personality]
Despite her youth, Anise is quite the complicated girl emotionally. Most of the time she acts the sweet, cute, carefree girl, spunky and confident- She makes friends easily and is full of energy all the time, always happy and such. She has an obsession with rich men, as she wants to marry into money; Pretty much anything that gets her money catches her interest, provided it's not openly illegal. If you are rich, male, and available, she will flirt with you. This may or may not apply to gay men, women (Straight or not), and married men/women. Depends on the situation.

Beneath this, however, Anise is a deeply conflicted girl- Due to her being forced to work for Mohs, she feels as if she has to handle the situation alone, without letting anyone else know about it- After Ion's death, however, she's riddled with guilt over her betrayal of the group and her not trusting them fully, and is dedicated to atoning for it.

She has an aggressive streak to her as well, on occasion fiercely defending Ion and the others in a fit of rage. (Typically while screaming things like "I'll kill you bastards!") More than anything, though, she's loyal to Ion, and will do anything and everything to protect him.

Overall, Anise is a very kindhearted girl, trustworthy and smart. She's fiercely loyal to those she cares about, a dependable and strong-willed guardian, and a good friend. ...And a golddigging, flirtatious teenager, but you know, whatever.

[Specialties/Abilities] Anise is a skilled user of fonic artes, specifically those of the First (Darkness) and Sixth (Light) fonons; she has several spells in her arsenal utilizing these two elements, giving her a wide array of attacks. In addition, she carries a small puppet named Tokunaga, made by Dist the Rose- By channeling fonons through said puppet, she can increase his size, allowing her to ride on him. As his puppeteer, any motion she makes while controlling him is mimicked exactly, and by channeling fonons along with this she can perform devastatingly powerful physical artes as well. (Gameplay video, Tokunaga appears around 0:10.) Finally, she also carries a staff with her, the power of which directly affects how powerful Tokunaga and her spells are, via allowing her to increase the amount of fonons being channeled through her body.

In addition, Anise is an incredibly skilled chef due to her training to be the perfect bride.

[Affection] If you're rich? Pretty much anything goes, except for... you know, straight-on molestation. Partially because she's 13 and therefore it's against the rules. (Booooooo.)

[Fighting] Don't hurt Anise herself without explicit permission, but if you want to beat up Tokunaga? Go for it. Rip him apart, stab him, beat him, whatever. She's quite a capable fighter, but won't attack unprovoked unless she thinks you're a threat to Ion (Or her other friends, but specifically Ion.)

[Other Facts] Her Dreamberry looks like Tokunaga.
