Kaylee had been inspired by Inara's words. She had watched the companion leave her own shuttle, leaving the young mechanic to her own devices. After eating two more of Inara's almond cookies, Kaylee got to her feet and headed out to the walkway that ran the entire length of the cargo hold below. Simon, if she wasn't mistaken, would still be in the galley, and if Inara had done what she said she would, he would be there without Mal.
Perfect.
She quickly made her way down to the kitchen, where she found both the good doctor and Shepherd Book. "Shepherd," she said by way of a greeting, nodding in his general direction. She smiled as she approached Simon. "Doctor Tam? Mind if I steal a few minutes of your time?"
Well, she had his attention. That was a start. She remembered what Inara had said... 'Perhaps words aren't the answer. Perhaps we should look to actions - both theirs and our own.' She still wasn't quite sure what that meant, but damn it all if she wasn't going to find out.
It quickly dawned on her that she didn't know what she was going to say to him once she had him alone. Maybe ask him about River... it was a valid concern, and something he was sure to be comfortable talking about. She couldn't help but wonder what might happen after, though... after they had established that River was, indeed, fine. Her thoughts, once again, drifted to the almost kiss they had almost shared before Early's intrusion. Sigh... if only Shepherd Book hadn't come through...
