It felt a little rushed, but that's probably just because it's hard for me to dissociate Gurren-hen from the series and judge it as a movie in its own right. I love the minor details and scenes from the show, so of course I'll miss those. (Can you imagine if it had remained the planned 52 episodes?)

The new footage was great and of course I wished there were more. Still crossing my fingers on new side projects that fill in the blanks... However, it was interesting to see the small alterations that were edited in to aid the time constraints, like Adiane directly receiving a message about Nia's abandonment and the Generals' combination.

I noticed a few tweaks for Nia in general, especially her more blatant emotional reactions. Those probably help speed up her connection with Simon, but I hope the sparkles and other cutesy effects are kept to a minimum in the second movie--too much of that and it toes the line of feeling contrived, which would have the opposite effect the writers were going for. It makes sense as a setup for Lagann-Hen though, as does the Parallel Works 8 intro. Genome's story takes away some of the surprise, but it was great for showing how it reflects Simon's possible path if not for the influence of Kamina and Nia.
