Gah, so much stuff is coming out that I'm having trouble keeping track of it all. x_x
Tokyo Anime Fair 2009 + Lagann-hen
So the Tokyo Anime Fair was held last week, and Gainax had a booth for the Lagann-hen movie. You can find more details and pictures over at the
Gainax blog (I don't feel like translating it all), but here's the news-worthy stuff I was able to find on the net.
The ad for Yoko's music video (first 28 seconds)
Some new scenes from Lagann-hen were shown. According to reports, they included:
-Simon & Nia from what looked like the fight against Lord Genome (Nia had short hair)
-The Gurren-dan drinking their farewell to the Earth (possible homage to Space Battleship Yamato?)
-A cool-looking Mugann
Going back to
this month's Newtype article: whereas only the second half of Gurren-hen was newly written by Kazuki Nakashima, for Lagann-hen, Nakashima wrote the entire screenplay from scratch. This means that there will be new scenes throughout the movie with bits from the TV series to fill things in between.
Lastly,
omg this is adorable. Music
New BGM has been recorded for the movie! They will be released on the
Lagann-hen Soundtrack Plus on sale in May.
The thing is, there are only...three tracks.
Taku Iwasaki says on
his blog:
"The number of tracks are few, but again there will be song, rap, and tears.
(Maybe not tears...)
Same as last time, this time the song quotes a certain famous text that should be recognized right away by people who know German or like classical music.
But we're not merely using it as lyrics. The very fact that we are quoting this supports an important part of what holds true to Gurren Lagann as a work, perhaps to the level of meta-level.
Now just what significance is this going to have?"
Uhhh yeah that's a really rough translation. What I guess he's trying to say is that there will be another "Libera me from hell"-esque song that will have some kind of deep meaning to it.
Also, on the
single for the movie theme song "Namida no tane, egao no hana," there's a track called "Sorairo Days -Tengen Toppa EDITION Lagann-hen-". Apparently this is another version of the
"Sorairo Days -Tengen Toppa EDITION-" made to be used as an insert song for the final battle in the movie.
Merchandise
A bunch of
new merchandise was featured at TAF, but I just found this particularly amusing:
Kamina Jesus Cross Pendant
For anyone who wants to take "Kamina Saved My Life" way too seriously.
Soon you will be able to buy
Simon's Core Drill and
Nia's Ring!
New clear files!
The
Gurren Gakuen-hen tankoubon is now on sale!
A new
Illustration Collection! 120 pages of past-and-present official art!
Here's a
larger look at the Kamina & Simon Photobook ad. It says you will be able to see them in various situations such as "wearing school uniforms, butler, prince, host, etc."
The cover. Also will have a "Gurren-dan Enrollment Test Kamina Style - Manliness Check" included in the book.
*mixed feelings are still mixed*
And I haven't seen the source for this myself, but word is that the new drama CD coming with the LE Gurren-hen DVD will be a continuation of the "Otoko Ippiki Gurren Lagann" drama CD. Mitsuki Saiga is reported to have said Rossiu will be an enemy again, and Hiyama will be in it too which means MORE DEKOI/SASSOON YEESSS.
And here's some miscellaneous official art that I don't think has been posted yet:
Kamina + Simon + Rossiu + Boota looking like total nerds Pretty Kamina/Yoko from the 2nd Illustration Compilation Phew.
