Doctor Who Season 3

Where to begin.

I was quite hesistant to watch the new season of the show. Last season we welcomed a new doctor, but we also said good-bye to a side kick.

This season it was same doctor but new side kick. This was my main reason for not really wanting to watch. I liked the first sidekick, Rose. I liked her with the doctor. I enjoyed the chemistry. But they took it away and gave a new sidekick, Martha. I wasn't too keen on her from the beginning. I guess it's more of a hatred of change issue.

After watching the episodes, it is clear she has more depth than Rose but I'm still not her greatest fan. She's enjoyable but she's not Rose. I can't tell you how happy I was when during the season three finale Martha left the Doctor. Whoo! But it was short lived because I learnt that she will be back for the last half of the fourth season and in 3 episodes of Torchwood (I really should watch that). I haven't really given the character a chance, so who knows. I'll just have to rewatch episodes and re-evaluate my opinion.

Having just completed watching all 13 episodes, I can say the last 3 episodes were frickin' awesome! Truth be told, I didn't fully pay attention at all to the earlier episodes. It kind of felt like meeting your friend/sibling's new gf or bf and liking them, but you still miss the previous gf or bf. The new one is certainly nice and everything, but you don't know how to feel about them. You like them and everything, you're just a little uncertain about them. I only paid full attention to the last 4 episodes, the other 8 would run in the background while I was doing other computer tasks.

So why were the last 3 episodes so awesome? Well we learnt a lot of interesting things. First of all we met an elderly man who had a same little watch that only timelords have. Incidently these watches are special devices that turn time lords into humans, while storing all there true identity inside the device. Therefore we understand why the Face of Boe told the Doctor that he was not alone. This other time lord turned out to be the Master - the archenemy of the Doctor. At least that's what I read. This was the first I heard of him, but thank you to wikipedia, I learnt more. Doesn't really matter as he died in the final episode.

I think the best thing about these episodes was seeing Captain Jack Harkness back. It was hilarious. We also learnt that when Rose brought him back in the season finale of season one, she made him immortal. Flashforward the the most recent episode and Jack asks the Doctor how he'll age or if he will age in appearance. He at this points makes a joke about how as a kid his nick name was "face of boe" (the Boeshane Peninsula being his early home), implying that he eventually becomes the Face of Boe. Mind baffling. I never would have thought that were possible. I'm quite interested to see where this is going.

As it is getting late, I'm starting to forget what else I found so interesting about this season. So on that note, off I go and the hopes of typing more when i'm more alert.
