Being kinda petty now...

So you may have heard about this ongoing argumentdiscussion that myself and aliasrob have been having about the films La Jetee and Twelve Monkeys.

It's basically been about the relationship between the two, and just how similar they are.

Well that's definitely an interesting poll. I haven't seen either of them in their entirety but I know that La Jetee supposedly inspired 12 monkeys. Personally I think Terry Gilliam is kind of a douche. His work often seems to rip off other stories but I don't really like the way that he does it. Like all of the Alice in wonderland references in Tideland bothered me because it didn't really serve a purpose or go anywhere. Eh, I just don't really like some of his choices. Fear and Loathing is awesome but I thought it was too long. I think it's just that his films are so beautiful that he doesn't want to cut the scenes that he likes and others are just disregarded.

Interesting points! It seems like (this might just be the case with people I know) Gilliam goes uncriticized a lot of the time. I was pretty unimpressed by Tideland but a lot of my friends loved it. I'm tempted to give it another chance just in case I've missed something. It seemed kinda, empty to me?

This whole semi-argument with my boyfriend was pretty interesting, because it was basically hinged on the point when something goes from being 'inspired by X' to being 'remake of X' and that can be really hard to define.

By the way, I *love* your work with StuntKid

Maybe failed remake would be an appropriate term! haha. I also was totally unimpressed by Tideland and all of my friends think I'm crazy.
