Yeah, like you I'm not convinced I'm right on any of this, just that it's right for me to step back.

I've never been that close to extended family so sm hasn't really done much for me there. I will say, my 86-year-old grandpa died in his sleep last night (he'd been sick awhile, and refusing to take care of himself for some time) and so I got on for a bit today: my ultra-right-wing-ex-military cousin posted about it, which gave me a chance to connect with him when otherwise I wouldn't have. (Half a mind to wing to the service just to see him interact with my uncle the Democratic city councilman.)

Really, I suspect it does as good or better a job creating contempt in me for people who I don't actually know anymore. I'm suspicious and skeptical of pretty much every way anyone chooses to portray themselves- including myself. But even it's not all equal, some people bear more than their share.

effbook more makes me feel like I'm eavesdropping and then gossiping about people whose posts I guess make me feel like I have permission to do so? More weirdness. What I miss most are the folks who don't post enough as I'd like. I wish I could just drop in on so many people, they'd be weirded out if they knew.
