Summary: It was a place she could escape to. Away from the constant bustle of the idol life, from the world that expects so much- too much- from her. There were no fans, no anti’s- no pesky, snooping SNSD members- in this virtual world. She could be herself, if only for an hour, or sometimes the whole night. Either way, it was an escape, and she’s gladly taking it. Derived from the book Gamer Girl by Mari Mancusi. Partly!AU(Gamer!verse)

It had all started one morning with the morning mail. Sunny hadn’t really expected anything special, some fanmail, maybe a small gift (Usually some sort of food that Sooyoung ends up eating anyways.) She didn’t expect the large wrapped box that manager-Oppa had handed to her.

The girl looked at the package with a raised eyebrow… It wasn’t her birthday, or any other kind of anniversary that she could recall.

“What is it!!?” Sunny let out a whine at the tickling sensation she felt as Yoona poked her side from curiosity.

“I’m opening it! Sheesh!” She quickly unveiled the package with quick tears. Yoona made a face before getting up from her seat beside Sunny and walking off.

“A-a-vel-liaah?” the short girl squinted at the English letters printed in the center of the colourful box. It was decorated with anime-like characters, fantasy-derived creatures and plants, along with a lush backdrop. Anyone could tell that it was a game, the only thing was, it was English.

Turning her nose up at the barely-practiced characters, Sunny set the box down and picked up the small orange envelope that had come attached to it. Sunny smiled when she realized that it was written in Korean.

To Sunny-Unnie!

Annyanaseyo! I’m a very big fan of Unnie’s from the state ^^ Recently, I found out that you like playing video game :D It’s so cool that you do~! I sent you a game that you might like (If you don’t I’m sorry :<)

Before you worry about it being English, you can change the settings so that everything is in Korean ^^ it’s an international game, so you’ll defiantly find Koreans there too ^^

I hope you have fun playing Unnie!

From your humble Sunshiner! Sunny Hwaiting! So Nyuh Shi Dae Hwaiting!

Sunny put the letter down and stared at the colourful box in fascination. She shook in to hear the rattling of a disk and paper shuffling around. She even flipped it over and tried to read the description on the back. There were too many big words though.

She sat there pondering about the game until Taeyeon had told her that she’d be  late for schedules if she didn’t leave right then.

“You messed up again!” Hyoyeon exclaimed, poking Sunny’s forehead. The aegyo princess frowned and swatted at the hand.

“It’s not like I want to.”

Hyoyeon scooted closer to her, wearing an evil grin. “You sure you just weren’t thinking about Sungmin?”

Sunny’s mouth fell open at the mention of her former DJ-ing partner. “No! Besides,” she sighed. “Sooyoungie and Min Oppa are together…”

Okay, so maybe they weren’t together together, but all the SNSD members knew there was something going on between the two, and it wasn’t just friendship. Sunny couldn’t help but be jealous of the taller girl. She liked Sungmin. Like, really liked Sungmin, but the older man only so her as his cute Dongsaeng.

Hyoyeon gave the short girl a sympathetic look. “Hey, don’t worry so much.” She said, punching her friend in the arm slightly. She put on a look of mock hurt, “At least you got an cool gift from a fan today right?”

Sunny nodded.

Sunny spent half an hour staring at the box before getting up to find Tiffany so she could install the game into her laptop (She could ask Jessica, but the older girl already makes enough fun of her for gaming.)

After two frustrating hours of trying to install the game (Tiffany could read English instructions. That didn’t mean she was a master at carrying them out.) and changing the settings so that Sunny could read the instructions, Sunny thanked the other singer and giddily stared at the colourful welcome screen.

“Aveliea.” She pronounced awkwardly, the name foreign to her.  It was a multi-player, RPG kind of game. Sunny wasn’t completely sure what to do. She’d played a couple of RPG’s before, but nothing very big. She hesitantly hovered over the “Create your player” button before pressing down on it.

She was amazed by all the choices in front of her as she browsed through all the character options. In the end, her character became a tall, shapely, warrior girl with dark hair in two buns on top of her head. She was decked out in sleek silver armor (The starter kind, granted, but she could always buy better equipment) and a big silver blade gripped in both hands. Tall, sexy and intimidating, three things she wasn’t in real life.

She looked at the character on screen for a while longer before clicking the start button. The screen suddenly went black and sunny jumped thinking that she may have done something, but it soon flooded back with colour. The pictures changed as if in a comic book, telling the story of young warriors, monsters and quests. The screen went black once more and the next time it coloured, sunny could see her pixilated character in the middle of a small equally-pixilated town.

She moved around a bit, testing the keys, before reading the little message that had popped up in the corner of the screen. Welcome to Aveliea! Talk to NPC Naiome to get started!

She axed out the box before searching around for the NCP. She found her in a tavern- game’s words not hers- in the edge of the town, a short chubby female character dressed in green, Victorian men’s clothes. How strange. Sunny thought before clicking the figure.

After getting through the basics (She’d done her first quest-a delivery- leveled up two or three levels, and scored enough loot off monsters to buy some better-prettier-  equipment.) she started to go through various quest, talking to some random players along the way.

Sunny found it strange how comfortable she was with moving her character around the screen and chatting away with people. Since no one knew who she was, she guessed, it was easier to forget about the ‘idol image’ she was forced to maintain in real life.

The girl broke out of her thoughts as a knock came to the door. “Sunny-yah! Time for food!” Sooyoung yelled, her head poking through the door.

“In a minute.”

“I’ll eat it if you don’t come soon~!” The taller girl piqued. Sunny looked up to glare at the younger girl.

“Don’t you dare eat my food!” Sooyoung stuck her tongue out at the girl before prancing off. Sunny stared at the door for a while longer before hearing the noises coming from her laptop.

“Ack!” She cried as monsters swarmed her on the screen. She rapidly pressed keys to swing her sword, trying to counter attack the beasts. She sobbed as her efforts came out futile, her life bar dropping every second. She let out a loud cry just as the screen lit up white. Sunny blinked at the screen before realizing the monsters were gone.

13131514 says: A thank you would be nice.

Sunny blinked before noticing the other character on screen besides herself. She blushed and quickly typed in a reply.

Sun_Shine03 says: oh, thanks ^^;

13131514 says:  np ^^ noob?

Sunny laughed.

Sun_Shine03 says: That obvious?

13131415 says: kinda…

13131415 says: yea. Here.

There was a flashing sound and Sunny’s health was suddenly restored.

Sun_Shine03 says: :D thanks…?

13131514 says: Khyun. U?

Sunny paused typing for a bit contemplating on whether to tell the other her name. I guess it’s fine if it’s not my real name. She shrugged.

Sun_Shine03 says: Sunny ^^

13131514 says: ooh snsd fan!

Sunny rolled her eyes before telling Khyun she wasn’t.

13131514 says: So noob, want help?

The small girl laughed and went along with his words. The quested, fought monsters, explored dungeons and had fun and by the time Taeyeon slipped into the room to sleep, it was already well passed one in the morning.

“Shoot!” Sunny exclaimed, catching the time.

“Sooyoung ate your food already. There might be sandwiches in the fridge though. Hurry up and sleep.” The leader ordered tiredly.

Sunny scowled at the thought of Sooyoung eating her food, she’d get her in the morning.

Sun_Shine03 says: g2g. nagging rmmate --“

13131514 says: lol mine does too. g’nite

Sunny smiled at the message before logging off and going off to find some food.

In the back of her mind, she couldn’t wait to log into Aveliea the next day.
